In fairness, HBO hasn’t been known to have great series recently either.

My free sub through AT&T is ad free. So that’s cool.

Also all of my Roku apps auto updated so that’s also cool.

There's a better than 0% chance I jerked off to a ficus that I thought was a boob at least once.

They successfully merged my old accounts on the TV and phone. The laptop let me log in but is not showing my list.

So happy I had to download a new app to have the chance to not watch 700 lb fat lady and Sister Wives.

Had to download the new app but didn’t have re-sign in, everything else looks fine.

Max doesn't work for us on the Roku. We had access to HBO Max through my wife's YouTubeTV account, but it can't verify her credentials through the Max app.

We've tried everything. I'm pissed.

We get it through AT&T, we’re streaming it on an Fire Stick. I was prepared for problems but this time it actually worked.

It seems really weird to me too and I've asked a few times and hadn't heard a business explanation.

It's been positioned as the "second label" for HBO the last few years and the quality of the content very obviously reflects that with almost all the big ticket stuff being HBO flagged.

I saw this on reddit so take it with a grain of salt.

HBO still exists as a separate entity/production company. They actually pushed for this to happen because they don't want MAX's original programming reflecting on HBO's prestigious brand. It's just the app that is changing.

Again, I have no idea if this is correct or not but it does add up.

I might buy that actually. If HBO wants to be sort of the Focus Features to Max's Universal I get it. If Max is going to be doing the bulk of the programming I guess it might be weird to have all the MAX chaff sitting in an app called "HBO" and having to sort through it to get to the highest quality stuff.

thanks for the insight

Totally makes sense now. A lot of the max originals I have watched have been somewhat lower production than HBO

They removed all seasons of Westworld last year.

And they just removed about half of the episodes of Impractical Jokers from every season. I don't understand why they did that.

I'm doing a watch of The Wire and prior to 2 days ago I'd get an ad at the beginning before it starts but then an hour of episode. Now wtih "max" I get two, 1 minute ads at the start and FOUR differnet ad breaks throughout one 60 minute episode. This shite sucks.

Yeah I don't understand why people act like a name change is such a big deal for this very reason, HBO isn't producing everything that's on the app. As far as content strategies and app errors and all that goes, have at it, but HBO dropping their name is totally fine. I wouldn't want the company known for Succession and Sopranos to be tied to reality tv shows. It's kinda like TCM having their own section as well, it's not like they're producing Batman animated movies.

From what I have gathered, it’s still the same app but just called Max

It's not the same app. I had to download and then update a new app on my TV last night when I went to HBO Max.

It's interesting that now so many know HBO for their outstanding series when it was originally started to show uncut movies without ads. I mean it is Home Box Office.

I can't find the TCM section anymore, at least not on the web app on my desktop. Is it hidden somewhere?

Maybe I’m just old and the focus group doesn’t have that connection and they just know max is a word that means more

I think this is the case. I also think of Cinemax, but I bet my kids wouldn't at all. They are early 30s.
