Probably Brad Pitt for me. He's great in everything

Leo is up there too.

Tommy Lee Jones is another one.

Pitt is one that grew on me. I originally dismissed him as a pretty-boy, but he kept taking interesting roles and playing against that (as much as he can, anyway). Now I dig most everything he does.

I would say over the past 10 years or so Jon Bernthal has become my favorite. I will watch anything he is in now even if its just a small role.

Favorite movie is True Romance and Oldman crushes it as a white Rastafarian
The character is Drexl Spivey. I think someone has that as their username on TD. I know there's a Drexl poster here that uses that spelling.

Oldman is one of those guys that takes on the role so fully, you don't realize it's him. At least I was that way on a couple of movies I didn't know he was in.

Sid and Nancy (1986) was the 1st thing I saw him in. Then I saw him in Chattahoochee (1989), and didn't know it was the same guy. Then I saw him in State of Grace (1990), and thought, this guy can play any kind of crazy role. The JFK comes out and I think they dug up, and reanimated, a really creepy Lee Harvey Oswald. After that, I tried not to miss any movie he was in. I've seen most of them, and he hasn't disappointed. Definitely one of my favorites too. He's not always a crazy guy, but he's great in those roles. He was great in a more reserved role as the British spy in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). I still watched him in every scene to try to figure out what he knew, or what he was thinking. I think he can pull off just about any role.

ETA:
He either loves doing the crazy character roles, or Hollywood goes to him 1st to offer them.

I didn't see anyone mention him, but I gotta throw in Willem Dafoe too.

The Aviator
Spider-Man
At Eternity's Gate
Florida Project
Shadow of the Vampire
Platoon
American Psycho
Mississippi Burning
Inside Man
Every Wes Anderson film (think he's in every one. Feels like he is)
Boondock Saints
Clear and Present Danger
Born on the 4th of July
The Lighthouse
The Last Temptation of Christ

Even the new Nosferatu he was really good in. Never understood why he doesn't have an Oscar, or even a Golden Globe, yet. He's not talked about enough.

Jimmy Stewart

Liberty Vance
Shop Around the Corner
Rear Window
Philadelphia Story
Vertigo
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
How the West was Won

and the greatest movie of all time...

It's a Wonderful Life.

i'm definitely omitting the Greatest Show on Earth from the above.

If you are a Dafoe fan, check out Inside. It’s a very slow burn but he is great in it.

Dafoe is an art thief and gets trapped in a penthouse after the security system locks him in.

Russell Crowe

Virtuosity
LA Confidential
The Insider
Gladiator
A Beautiful Mind
Master & Commander
Cinderella Man
3:10 to Yuma
American Gangster
Man of Steel
The Nice Guys

Quite the run. His reaction to winning the Oscar is one of my favorites: genuine, authentic surprise.

Gary Oldman - for his ability to disappear, and into roles that are wildly different. Last week I watched Mank and Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy on the same flight, just to see Oldman do his thing. Two extremely different roles. And both are totally different from Winston Churchill, for which he won Best Actor. I'll watch anything the guy is in.

In my opinion, there is no actor equal to Cate Blanchette.

lot of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I'll submit one I am suprised has not come up.

Mr. Gene Hackman

The French Connection
Unforgiven
The Royal Tenenbaums
Crimson Tide
The Firm
Hoosiers

and so many more, not all of them were extremely highly rated, but man they were mostly fun, entertaining and he just pulled you in for his performances

Blanchette is a good call. For versatility, I'd go with Tilda Swinton.
