You're not wrong in this thinking, but it's hard to project a fight based off of extrapolation as to what someone could become. Jon isn't there yet, so we simply have to go with what he's achieved so far.
I think with a few years of seasoning Jon could become truly top-tier, second only to the generational talents like Jaime, Dayne, Selmy, and the like, but if the tinfoil is to be believed he's already faced an older, past-prime Arthur in the books and got absolutely smashed into the ground. He's not close to the very best right now.

Oberyn bested the mountain.

He lost
So he didn't beat him. And the mountain has killed a ton of people that as far as we know, outside of oberyn, they're nobodies. At the hands tourney The Hound was toe to toe with the mountain and will probably end up killing him.
You're making it seem like The Mountain is the greatest fighter on the planet when apparently he gets worn out in 30 seconds of fighting. And he was unhorsed by the knight of flowers, who brienne beat.

Maybe the Mountain isn’t that great but Oberyns loss was not due to lack of skill. I wouldn’t write him off just bc he lost his only fight. Unless we assume Oberyn will always stop to celebrate before finishing off an opponent.

Clearly this is turning into book readers vs non book readers. To the book readers: how is Robert portrayed in the books that make him seem so invincible? The show talks about him being in better shape, but doesn’t make him out to be some terminator. What stories from the past do the books tell?

No I'm not writing him off, hes a great fighter. I really really wish his character lasted longer. I just think bc of how awesome of a character he was its clouding everybody's judgement.
Oberyn is super interesting, brienne is pretty meh. But as far as fighting goes, nobody has a better resume than brienne.

He could wield a giant hammer with one fricking hand that everyone else struggled to pick up with two. And he was not sloppy on the battlefield. He was very skilled with the hammer, unlike the Mountain who is just big and wears tons of armor. Jaime Lannister would shite his pants against Robert on the battlefield. You wouldn’t want this mother fricker marching against you in the battlefield.

She did she did. Strike one.
Side note: book arya is my favorite character but it got on my nerves how the show portrayed her this last season. She didn't come close to finishing her training but somehow she is basically a faceless man. She took on one character and didn't even learn how to put on a face herself, give me a break.

Wow. Maybe I missed something but the show doesn’t do him justice in that regard at all. That picture is a far cry from this, which is probably why people are saying Drogo would definitely win.

Gods he was strong then.

Now this is the matchup we've all been waiting for. I'm taking Hot Pie as long as he doesn't yield

The way I picture a Young Robert is Henry Cavill. He may be a bit too old to portray him now, but he would have been perfect as a young Robert Baratheon. I’m not alone on this:

The Mountain is nowhere near the best fighter. His size and strength frighten people but as for pure fighting skills, he’s not even close to the best. Sure, there are plenty he can just outright overpower, but strength alone does not make one a good fighter. Someone quick and agile would easily take him by death of a thousand cuts. I’d almost take Arya over him at this point because of the way she fights. She’d let him wear himself out and inflict small wounds on him as she went.
It’s like Ali vs Foreman. Foreman was a pure power boxer and Ali was quick and agile. He let Foreman wear himself out while inflicting small hits on him throughout.

Yeah, The Hound is the real fricking deal. The Mountain is simply strong and terrifying. I really hope the Hound kills his brother with a flaming sword in the final battle with the Others.

I still go with Drago over Robert for the same reasons I said before. The Dothraki find extreme honor in dying in battle. They don’t fear death in battle. Drago would probably accept his death in the battle was imminent and would basically kamikaze the fight.
The only thing that could save Robert would be the armor. Without armor, Robert is dead easily.

Which is why Drogo is dead. Unless Drogo has perfect aim with his arakh towards his armors weakness, then he’s totally fricked. He gets one swing, in which Robert gets another. He’s dead.
The only people who stood a real chance against Robert in his prime were members of the Kingsguard, all seven of which would destroy Khal Drogo and his bloodriders around him. Robert is just on another level of Drogo. Drogo is a professional thug, while Robert was just a monster in the field.
