Quite a few. Agreed with others that dubs are awful and I prefer CC.

Let the Right One In is a fav (among others already mentioned).

The Criterion Channel is great. And now you have the chance to check out all of Kurosawa and Bergman's movies.

Oh yes! Saw that a couple years ago on Hulu I think. Then saw it again months ago. Didn't think I would like watching child actor playing a vampire, but that is one unique movie, really scary and original. Shows you what a low budget movie can be with talent.

Definitely so. Have watched about 5 of Bergman's films on the channel, all good, but I really liked Personna, and Fanny/Alexander. Have his others in my list queue. Kurosawa, have Seven Samurai and Rashomon on list, can't wait, thx.

City of God is already mentioned and is great.

Another I saw can’t remember name. Based in Mexico City. A super model and old man with a bunch of stray dogs in it. I’m sure someone will recall it. Very good movie. Old man was a former assassin I believe. It’s been 10 or more years.

I have Yojimbo and Sanjuro coming in Monday and I will likely pick up more soon.

Luckily Yojimbo is on Criterion I just found, so in my list now, thx. Sounds like you have disc, blu-ray movies coming? I probably should splurge and buy a player, take advantage of modern big screen tv.

Quite a few times.

If it's a great movie, you don't notice, and afterwards you remember the story just as well as if you had understood the audible words.

Pan's Labyrinth is an example. I would recommend that to anyone as a great film. It was sub-titled, and I don't remember it differently than any other really good movie.

Also an example, I watched season 1 of Beforiegners on HBOMax. It's in Norwegian, all subtitled. Watched it within a month ago; as of now I just remember I liked it and want to see more seasons... I don't "remember" it being subtitled, as such.

After a few minutes, if the movie is good, i.e. the story, actors, cinemantography, etc., you soon get lost in suspended disbelief and don't even notice or get distracted by the close captioning
Exactly.

It's like reading a book, your brain processes and integrates the information. When you later "recall" it, you don't recall "text on paper", you recall the information.

Sidenote- the brain is a wonderful processor, ain't it?

What an excellent reply, way of explaining, thank you Scoob!

You can also watch the two most terrifying movies ever made, and the less you know about them, the better:

Audition
4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days

And throw in Train to Busan as a pallet cleanser, which is more fun than scary. But awesome.

I enjoy owning the discs. It is kinda like having books in a library.

Just fun to look through.

Seven Samuri is one of my all time favorite movies... also plenty of great foreign films free on Vudu.

Great action movie is Man From Nowhere

Amorres Perros. It's the first of the Trilogy of Death along with 21 Grams and Babel.

Some that I loved that haven't been listed yet:

Amelie
The Science of Sleep
Angel-A
B13
Y tu mama tambien

I know I'm forgetting a lot more. The old mail delivery netflix opened my horizons.

Always close captioned over dubs, even with anime

Amelie is really great imo, I fell in love with the lead actress:)

Y tu mama tabien, not so much, I've tried twice to watch it but I'll get about half way through and it just doesn't resonate with me for some reason, oh well.
