Her little speech about why she's with Rick revealed her to be a shallow, misguided moron. I guess it is a positive she's loyal to Rick, but I'm not sure it's because she's 'decent'.

This may have already been discussed, but evidently she is the “biggest name” actor on the entire show from a global perspective as she’s a hugely popular K-pop star. An article I read said the show rinners were worried that the logistics of having her on set were going to cause major issues with fans showing up and disrupting things in attempts to see her.

It could be she just said that to get Saxon off her back. All season long she's been begging Rick to open up to her, so that speech felt off to me.

You guess it's a positive? It's not like saying someone is decent is a glowing complement but she has every opportunity imaginable to cheat like almost everyone else on this show but she stays faithful. Props to her, I don't care if her reasoning is shallow.

Just a very likable character imo and definitely doesn't bother me that she isn't giving Saxon (my favorite character by far) the time of day. He needs to lay off if anything.

I actually think Jaclyn has passed up Tim as my least favorite character this season. She is just an awful person.
She is an absolute bitch and acts like the victim. Intentionally agonizes her friends, then berates them when they get upset.

I'll say it again, but I really wish Tim would have just shot himself a few episodes ago.
Agreed, your rant is justified. I believe it would have been much more interesting and some truly chaotic energy to the show.

She's a misguided child-like moron, therefore she should have banged Saxon. Not sure I foresaw that train of thought happening in the thread.

A few drones here and there at the Four Seasons, but I think it was pretty tame. She didn't have any scenes in Bangkok, so that helped. My Thai art team seem to magically need to be on set during her days.

Toward the end when things were slow ... I snuck out for a long weekend to Hong Kong. She had the same idea and was on my flight out of Samui... they let her board way ahead of the commoners. I don't recall any security detail when we landed.

I have to say she seems really nice .... at the premiere in L.A., she was dancing and pounding tequila shots.

I'm at work so I can't really do this but would someone want to make a list of all the storylines that need to be tied up? I feel like multiple storylines can be concluded with one or two plot points.

I had a cancellation so I'll give it a shot while I'm waiting for my next client. If I miss anything let me know.

Ratliff Family Storylines

Tim Ratliff (Dad):

- Involved in a money laundering scheme (with Kenny voiced by Ke Huy Quan), the FBI has gotten involved, and there is a warrant out for him at this point in the US.

- After the offer of one to chill the frick out, is taking his wife's benzos. He's stolen the bottle (she thinks it's missing) and is popping them like fricking candy.

- Also stole the gun from the security hut which was later stolen back by Gaitok. Attempted to use it to suicide out and chickened out.

- Had a very "welcoming death" convo with Piper's monk and continues to contemplate suicide and at times murder-suicide.

- Had a conversation with Gary on the yacht about why someone would stay in Thailand (likely for fact finding purposes).

Victoria Ratliff (Mom):

- Benzo Queen. Regularly complains that she can't survive without her benzos and when they come up missing has resorted to replacing her drug of choice with alcohol.

- Had an interesting interaction with Leslie Bibb's character (Kate) who recognized her from a party they mutually attended several years ago but completely blew her off.

- Tried to convince one of the young, Thai women to leave her sugar daddy (in an absolute hilarious fashion).

- Is appalled that her daughter wants to stay in "Taiwan" with those "Buuuuudhists".

Piper Ratliff:

- Lied to her family about a thesis project to get them to come to Thailand so she could meet a monk and possibly spend a gap year at the monastery.

- Is picked on by her older brother (Saxon) for not having sex and being too uptight.

- Has what appears to be a close relationship with her younger brother Lachlan and often leans on him for support in the family dynamic.

- Becomes very put off when Lachlan tells her he wants to do the gap year with her in Thailand.

Saxon Ratliff:

- Desperately wants to get laid in Thailand and shoots his shot multiple times with no success.

- Was also on a mission to help his brother "man up", tries to regularly feed him protein shakes with the blender in their villa (Chekhov's gun) and mentor him until the "incident" happens.

- Is involved in the weird orgy with Chloe and Lachlan on Gary/Greg's yacht.

- Is approached by Chloe to help her cuck her boyfriend Greg/Gary and adamantly turns it down.

- Has a thing for Chelsea and tries to make a move on her when she was showing him how to meditate but is turned down.

- Works for his father's business and has no idea about the money laundering scheme. Openly admits his life revolves around the business and he's "no one" without it.

Lachlan Ratliff:

- Official agent of chaos by giving his brother a handy in an orgy with Chloe and trying to stay with his sister at the monastery.

- Also had sex with Chloe.

- Has no idea who he is and appears codependent on his siblings, at least for validation.

- Appears to still be in high school and the youngest of the siblings.

- Was weirdly watching tsunami videos (which his mother complains about) before his iPad was taken away.

Rick and Chelsea Storyline

Rick:

- Is in Thailand to meet the man he believes killed his father (Jim, husband of resort owner played by Scott Glenn). States that his mother told him on her death bed.

- Is in a May-December relationship with Chelsea.

- Has a small argument with the Ratliff over his smoking on the boat coming into the resort.

- Causes chaos at a local snake museum by letting all of the snakes out when high (which bites one his girlfriend).

- Schmoozes the resort owner into a meeting at her home in Bangkok by claiming he's helping make a movie that they want her in.

- Upon arriving in Bangkok, hooks up with an old friend Frank (Sam Rockwell) who gives him a duffle bag with a handgun. And does the best facial acting known to man in a conversation about Frank's debauchery .

- Frank and Rick go to the villa, Rick confronts Jim who recognizes Rick's mother's name, but Rick hauls arse before anything else can come from the meeting. They take off from the villa after Rick knocks Jim over in his chair (telling the bodyguards on the way out).*

- Frank and Rick go on a coke and hooker binger after the villa. No Thai Lady Boys yet.

*I can't remember if he still has the gun on him or if he chucked it. I think he still has it on him.

Chelsea:

- As stated above, in a relationship with Rick and comes with him to Thailand.

- Befriends Chloe, a French-Canadian "former" skag who is with Greg/Gary and living on the hill above the resort.

- Is in the resort store when it's robbed by masked men (which we now know are the Russians).

- Is with Chloe, Saxon, and Lochlan on the yacht when their shite goes down but doesn't participate. Is with Chloe when they tell Saxon that he had the threesome with his brother and Chloe.

- Has an firm, but friendly dynamic with Saxon and appears to genuinely want to help him out but turns him down multiple times to sleep together.

- Is bit by a Cobra early on when with Rick visiting the snake museum (while Rick is high as a fricking kite). She recovers ok.

- Genuinely worries and cares for Rick and has a "bad feeling" that something is going to happen.

The Three Basic White Bitches:

Laurie (Carrie Coon):

- Liberal from New York City who comes to Thailand after a divorce and having some issues with her lawyer job.

- Is encouraged by her friend Jaclyn to sleep with one of the resort workers, Valentin.

- Heavy drinker, pretty much stays drunk.

- Is furious with Jaclyn after Jaclyn sleeps with Valentin. Goes to the Muay Thai fights without her two friends.

- At the fights, is with the three Russians where Gaitok recognizes them.

- Sleeps with one of the Russians after the fights, Aleksei, when his girlfriend shows up and she has to shimmy out of the window.

Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan):

- Liberal from California, popular TV actress that is regularly recognized when out.

- Has a husband also in the film industry who she has trouble getting ahold of during the trip.

- Despite encouraging Laurie to sleep with Valentin, she does it instead after their wild night out partying with the Russian trio. Kate sees him leaving her room that morning and tells Laurie who confronts Jaclyn and is pissed.

- Is accused of being two-faced and does appear to be duplicitous at times.

- Speaks to her husband after sleeping with Valentin like nothing happened.

Kate (Leslie Bibb):

- Moderate/Conservative from Texas. Is the moral compass of the group.

- Just wants to have a nice, calm vacation in Thailand but is drug along a bit with the other ladies.

- Has an encounter with Victoria Ratliff where she recognizes her but Victoria doesn't recognize her.

- Has a conversation with Vlad where he tells her his life story while the others are in the pool.

- Is the one that sees Valentin leave Jaclyn's room.

- Can be the stir that stirs the shite sometimes going between friends.

Gaitok and Mook Storyline:

Gaitok:

- Young, Thai security guard that is bad at being a security guard.

- Doesn't want to be "violent" as per his Buddhist roots but is in love with Mook and wants to impress her.

- Is distracted by Valentin when the armed robbers "break" into the resort and does nothing to stop them.

- Recognizes that the Russians are the robbers at the fights by the tattoo on Aleksei's arm.

- Speaks to the resort owner about becoming a bodyguard but is shot down and mocked by her current bodyguards.

- Temporarily loses the gun given to him by his boss, but gets it back from Ratliff's villa.

Mook:

- Lovely young Thai worker at resort that has known Gaitok for quite some time.

- Is ambitious and has indicated she wants to be with someone who is also ambitious and wants to leave Thailand.

- Is often hanging out with Gaitok, who she is currently friend-zoning.

Greg/Gary and Chloe Storyline:

- Gary (formerly Greg) is Tanya's husband from Season 1 and 2. He allegedly had a terminal illness that Tanya paid to treat. He skipped out on Italy before Tanya dies, but is still suspected to be involved by authorities and they're looking for him.

- Chloe is Gary/Greg's girlfriend that he met in Dubai. She has befriended Chelsea, slept with Lachlan (while he was with his brother Saxon). She is trying to get Saxon to cuck Gary/Greg (which he's apparently into).

- Chloe takes the yacht to party with Lachlan, Chelsea, Saxon and Gary/Greg is none too happy about his girl having fun without him with his things.

- Gary/Greg is also keeping an eye on Belinda after she recognizes him.

Belinda and her Son Storyline:

- Belinda is another holdover from the first season as the spa worker that befriended Tanya last season.

- Belinda has figured out that Gary is Greg and he confronts her about it, offering to pay her off for what she knows.

- Belinda's son has arrived in Thailand to spend time with her (and is the person in the opening scene when the shooting starts).

- Belinda sleeps with fellow resort worker, Pornchai, after they spend the days together teaching her things about the resort.

- Belinda is freaking the frick out over the Greg/Gary offer to pay her off.

The Russians:

- Vlad, Aleksei, and Valentin are the three Russians that are robbing the resort and are hanging out with the three basic bitches.

- Aleksei sleeps with Laurie and on her way out she sees the jewelry that was stolen from the resort.

- Valentin sleeps with Jaclyn and sneaks out at dawn (seen by Kate).

- Valentin served as the distraction to the robbery (distracting Gaitok) when they entered. It appears Aleksei was the gunman and who confronted Chelsea in the resort store.

- Gaitok recognizes Aleksei by his tattoo at the fights and realizes they're the robbers.

Where storylines overlap:

- Gaitok recognizes the Russians as the robbers at the fights. Laurie sees the stolen jewelry when sneaking out of Aleksei's place. Jaclyn sleeps with Valentin (one of the robbers). Chloe (who was in the dressing room) and Chelsea is in the resort store when it's robbed.

- Greg/Gary is trying to pay off Belinda inside of their party while outside Chloe is trying to get Saxson to cuck Greg/Gary after the yacht orgy with Saxson and Lachlan. Chelsea is present for all of the Chloe interactions with guests.

- Tim Ratliff steals the gun from Gaitok, who steals it back.

- The Ratliffs and Rick interact on the boat coming in as well as on the yacht (Tim in particular doesn't like Rick).

- Kate (Bibb) recognizes Victoria Ratliff from a party long ago. Victoria blows it off.

- Kate also saw Valentin leaving Jaclyn's villa in the morning.

Rick tosses the gun into a garbage bin after he asks Frank if he needs it back and Frank says no, I didn't think you were bringing it anyway.

Gaitok better be a secret badass with some backstory where he's killed people and doesn't want to kill anymore. I think it's too late in the story to reveal much of that but he is a giant bozo if he is just a regular joe. The dude gets a chance to get out of the friend zone and goes on a date with a smoke show and on your first date you basically admit to being a pussy. Come on dude.

I'm not buying that this is Greg/Gary's thing. I think Chloe is trying to orchestrate some drama/violence.

Greg/Gary was certainly staring Saxon down as he declined Chloe's proposition and was leaving the house.

He is absolutely insufferable and just a completely boring story line.

I think that he his downward spiral has been tense af. I want him to tell someone, anyone in his family about what is going on so bad, but his wife and oldest son expressing how dependent they are on their lifestyle and image is keeping him from doing it, and making him consider a much more violent, horrible alternative. And he is just zonked out on pills and booze the whole time. Its disorienting and effective.

quote:

The three ladies story has been a bore. Just a bunch of gossipping back and forth but for a little bit of action last night. Could've cut out of show and no one would've noticed.

Their only purpose is being the conduit to the Russian thieves storyline.

I disagree. They crack me tf up, and their acting is on point. Good chemistry between the 3. I don't need too much action if the dialogue is good.

quote:

And I hated the red chinese lanterns at Gary's house. Bad choice by the decorator.

I actually liked the red lighting, especially the shot where Greg is lurking watching Belinda and her son leave the party.

quote:

I have to rewatch the episode, but I started forming an opinion that Lochlan is actually evil. But I was tired when I watched and may have been half asleep.

I think you might be right in that he might be a bit of sociopath. When Piper tells him he loves her, he doesn't reciprocate and has an empty, blank expression on his face.

What is the drama/violence theory?

Greg going to harm Saxon for banging Chloe, so try to get him alone?

Greg's motives have always been obscured throughout the show.

At this point it would seem too out of place for him to be a badass or undercover cop. Neither would just leave a gun sitting in the guard shack or fumble around like he does even when he's alone.

It feels like they showed him being a decent shot at the range to 1) give him a bit of confidence to engage a robber and 2) so it's not ridiculous next episode if he gets in a shoot out and actually hits someone. Of course he could be overconfident, miss his target, and kill Mook instead...
