Barbie will not get a design nom …. Oppenheimer might though

My guess is that Barbie will easily do better at the box. But people will probably still watch Oppenheimer in 10 years where the Barbie movie won’t even be thought of.

Sometimes this board is so idiotic it’s embarrassing
Oppenheimer will surely be a better movie, but Barbie will slaughter it at the theaters

If you go read the many versions of Barbie in the movie you'll see it's filled with identity politics. Even has a tranny actor playing Barbie doctor. Word of mouth may slow this down to where it's closer between the two movies than expected. And then people who didn't go see Barbie are racist, sexist bigots.

depends on the sound mix of Oppenheimer....

It will be close
Both will do well - The R rating is not the determent it was for films in the 1990's and will have the advantage of more expensive IMAX tickets. Lots of young people (and parents) are gonna go see Barbie - it has better overall early indicator metrics than Oppenheimer (the Oppenheimer trailer has more views though) and the unkown is if those indicators for Barbie will translate into Box Office - IF I had to make a prediction, I'll say Oppenheimer beats it but by less than 10 million.

Barbie by a mile. They are already predicting 100+ million
My wife was invited to a Barbie party where they go see it and back to someone’s house

Mission Impossible will annihilate both of them
Barbie will probably out-earn Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer is a niche movie.

Deadline article
Deadline was predicting 80-100 million in late June, based on pre-sale tickets, when the Barbie and Oppenheimer tracking got started. No clue what more recent tracking suggests.

Presales are very strong. It'll be huge no matter what this board thinks

I like Nolan, but I don't see how this movie will make much more 100 million domestic. Just very little audience for it. This day and age- who wants to see the story of the atomic bomb?

How much self-flagellating about how evil it was to A-bomb the Japs will there be?

God do you people ever get tired of this? It's supposed to be a fun summer movie, not the next Citizen Kane. Also, I've heard zilch about any identity politics for Barbie besides your comment.

Barbie. It has wider appeal. I’m going to see Oppenheimer. I know a lot about Oppenheimer and that whole time period so that one definitely appeals to me even though I’ve mostly soured on Christopher Nolan.

I think second weeken MI will definitely take away more Oppenheimer viewers than Barbie viewers. This really won’t even be a contest. The anti-woke snowflakes will pass on Barbie because women are featured prominently so there’s like $20 bucks gone there.

The good news for Oppenheimer is it has a modest budget, so it won't take much to turn a profit.

You guys forget how big Barbie was and how every housewife in America is ready for this.
I was at two July 4th parties last weekend and both times i asked a group of guys what movies they were excited about. I mentioned Oppenheimer and out of about 10 guys only 2 knew what it even was.

Wow: The BARBIE tracking has spiked to $93M for the opening weekend. OPPENHEIMER is also up, but to $43M, per NRG.

I’m in this group but aren’t most people just going back to back on weekends at the movies
