I haven’t seen a Marvel movie since Endgame. No shade, just figured it was the logical place to see myself out.

However, my 10 year old son, who hasn’t seen ANY Marvel movies, is telling me he wants to see Doomsday. I assume friends at school are talking about it.

So to avoid him being utterly confused by watching it, what’s the 5ish or so movies he should watch to prepare himself. I assume the last 2 Avengers, and I would also assume Brand New Day leads right into it. What else? Anything pre-Infinity War? All the Spider-mans? Dr. Strange? Isn’t there like a ‘New’ Avengers or something?

Help me out!

Not asking for your favorite, or even best. What needs to be seen to follow the plot of Doomsday?

If you have Disney+ they have a list of movies and shows to watch

If not I'd say

Loki
WandaVision
Black Widow
Doctor Strange and Multiverse of Madness
Spider-Man No Way Home
Shang Chi
Black Panther Wakanda Forever
Deadpool and Wolverine
Captain America Brave New World
Thunderbolts
Fantastic Four
Spider-Man Brand New Day

Guys. He’s 10 years old. I’m not forcing him to watch 12 movies and 3 different TV series in a month and a half.

What are the high spots? Just don’t want him to be completely lost.

Of course not. But let’s not be obtuse. We know the basics. It’s going to be multiverse heavy. X-men involvement. Captain America is back.

I haven’t seen anything since Endgame. I would have to assume that movies after that are have plot points leading up to Doomsday. I’m sure you can tell what’s important and what’s not. Just looking for basic advice from those who have seen them so we’re not watching a bunch of mid movies for nothing.

But it sounds like recommendations are leaning just towards all the main Avengers movies and No Way Home. I’m surprised more movies in latest phase aren’t being suggested.

Well, here’s the gist of it, bud. Doomsday was never supposed to happen like this. All the shite after endgame that was piling up was building up toward another villain called Kang. The actor fricked up IRL and Marvel decided it was best to separate with said actor, and had to go into a completely different direction. So, some of the movies that were made leading up to the Kang Dynasty are irrelevant to Doomsday. Many of them. In fact, the only hints of doomsday besides the trailers are at the end of fantastic four movie and the endgame encore.

So I guess lucky for you, and your son, nobody knows shite other than multiple different universes will be involved. So the best things I would go with would be the Doctor Strange Multiverse of madness, and Loki series. And those would be to show just how wacky and convoluted the numerous universes will be to follow coming our way. Because I’m guessing it’s going to ramp up quickly unlike Thanos over the course of half the infinity saga before he showed up.

Hell yeah! That’s exactly the type of advice I was looking for! I had completely forgotten Kang was supposed to be the Big Bad.

Appreciate it, BUD!

Fantastic Four First Steps is probably the only one I'd make sure to watch with your child. It's a pretty light, retro-futuristic movie that introduces the FF and (sort of) Doom.

No adult understands or cares about all the multiverse shite, so I wouldn't bother trying to force him to watch all the shows and post-Endgame movies unless they look entertaining to you.

Not a movie ,but Jericho is a very good series (two seasons, 29 episodes) in the aftermath of nuclear destruction of multiple major cities across the US.

EDIT: Sorry but didn't thoroughly read your post and question. You're looking for a Marvel movie or two as a setup for the Doomsday movie. I was way off.

It won't really matter, as End Game wasn't well thought out after further review.

Seems like people are trying to help you out and you’re disregarding what they’re telling you and think you know better.

You're acting like that's torture for a kid?

You have 8 weeks to get him ready to see the next phase conclusion in a cinema series that started almost 20 years ago.

He needs to know and understand the following:

Tony Stark's character development as it will pertain to his connection to Doom

The Infinity Stones, the snap, and the Avengers' choice to time travel

The TVA, the multiverse, variants, and incursions

I would say MINIMUM is Iron Man, Avengers, Age of Ultron, Civil War (optional), Infinity War, Endgame, and Loki (seasons 1 and 2 are very necessary). He'll probably need one more to understand incursions.
