I asked for a handful of movies. The first few suggestions were like 15 movies and a few entire TV series. Not helpful! I got a few that basically just suggested the main Avengers movies. Helpful! Then someone said the latest phase of movies doesn’t really matter that much because of the Kang fiasco. Very helpful!

Remove WandaVision, Black Widow, Shang Chi, Wakanda Forever, Deadpool and Wolverine (the kid is 10), Brave New World. Loki is great, but I dont know if a 10 year old will follow.

I'd watch:
Avengers, Infinity War, Endgame, No Way Home, Brand New Day, First Steps, Endgame Encore
That's probably your slimmest list. Multiverse of Madness, Loki could be added. D&W if you want him to watch that. It does the rest of the intros that you will need.
No Way Home and First Steps are the most pivotal movies on the list. Avengers gives you most of the references from all the films needed. Infinity War and Endgame intro the bulk of the heroes. Brand New Day is the most recent before the movie I believe.

Just the avengers movies and the last two spidermen should be good. That's 6. 7 if you count civil war which is Avengers 2.5
