Then WOT needs to go with dark lighting too Bc the Witcher looks fine and WOT sometimes looks good, oftentimes looks cheap.
Yeah, that's how it works. That's why most fantasy or effects heavy tv shows go dark.
The problem is the source material isn't "dark".
There are other ways to do it, though, and WOT just in general did a very poor job of it.

Was a reason given why Amazon didn't do 10 or 12 episodes for the first season? The lack of episodes really forced them to drop a ton of stuff into episodes without an explanation. Maybe the Horn of Valere was mentioned before episode 8, but I don't remember it. So, if you didn't read the books, you'd have no idea why these guys are digging up a box and why Fain would steal it. Also, I hope they do a good job of sprinkling in stories of the heroes next season so that when the horn is blown, it actually makes sense who is coming to the rescue.

Amazon does 8 episodes series because their internal metrics apparently say to do this.
I will give Rafe this: He has mentioned outright that Amazon screwed them. They expected 10 episodes, including a two hour pilot. That's what they started storyboarding and preparing for.
They were told pretty far into that process: Nah, you've got 8 episodes and a 55 minute pilot.
That being said, they were completely inefficient with the time they were given.
Did they really need to spend two episodes on an irrelevant Warder?

It really is a shame. It could have been huge. Its one of the best fantasy series of all time.
It really is a shame. I know that in my lifetime I’ll never see a decent adaption of my favorite book series. I never complained about the race swapping and wouldn’t have said anything about minor changes or character combining. The novels were too large. But the only thing similar between the novels and this…adaption… are names. Not one character was adapted from the novels. The core story has been ripped out and even the magic system was aborted.
I had my doubts as I read more and more from Judkins and he proved my doubts. I was an Amazon Prime member from way back for the free shipping and ease of access to books and I’m not going to cancel Prime because of this crap adaption.
I have no hope it will improve, but I’ll watch because, why not?
It’s difficult for me to post about what Judkins did to Robert Jordan’s grand work without getting angry.

Yeah, that's a good point. After the first season, would people believe that Mat is a main character? They hardly spent any time on him. Perrin was essentially a passenger of the story. They could have done a lot more on Rand. There are quite a few dead people that seemed to get more time than our main characters.

What I really don't understand is what Rafe did to the boys.
He nerfed the frick out of all 3 of them and made them pretty much bumbling fools and irrelevant characters.
For what? I don't understand.

I have more problems with Perrin than Mat, tbh
He came across as mentally retarded.

Those are the things I have issues with. Not the "oh it looks like the CW" subjective stuff yall go on about.
Part of Perrin's essential struggle is the Axe v the hammer. He doesn't even have an axe for most of the season. Yes, he is a deliberate guy that some confuse with slow. But the way he was portrayed its a miracle he can even put one leg in front of the other. He was portrayed as an idiot.
And Nynaeve and Egwene are like prodigies with immense power, and Rand barely existed as a character and doesn't come across that strong.
The boys were just TOO MUCH of a backseat.

A major red flag litmus test for this show is I can confidently read this thread as a non reader and not have to worry about spoilers because I can’t make heads or tails of any of it.

today is a sad day. it's a day i knew was coming. it's a day we all knew was coming. one poster in particular (who is a great dude and loves the material) knew was coming. It's day that the idiot posters that tried to pretend that the source material was never all about Mat, Perin, and Rand deny but knew was coming.
today is the day i have to dunk on my good friend fun bunch.
not just kinda dunk. balls to the face and make you like it dunk.
moving on..
We have now moved from this:

First time I watched the trailer I thought this was super odd. I’m still not 100% sure why they tried to make this appear to be The Hunger Games: Egwene the Two Rivers Edition. But my assumption is two reasons:
To get more female viewers which don’t traditionally watch epic fantasy
And
To hide the real plot and central characters
quote:
They play A LOT of gender dynamic politics and trust me when I tell you this trailer was VERY intentionally misleading. I know this for a fact having read this series for 25 years and followed this production very closely.
They are very very intentionally obfuscating some things.
quote:
Rafe has made some vague comments about hating that aspect so I think some of it will be changed.
Mat’s timeline into being “mat” is getting moved up quite a lot. Like…warp speed.
I think once people get a full dose of Lord Martim Bloody Cauthon their frets about this being “SJW” will evaporate like a motherfricker.

But the literal plot OF THE ENTIRE SERIES is hidden in that trailer. Isn’t even alluded to.
They are very much burying the lead, purposefully. Relax.
We have now moved from this:

I’m enjoying the heck out of this. I don’t care what anyone says.

I truly do not get the incessant bitching. It’s pretty good and entertaining in my opinion.

We are watching two different shows. It looks pretty good to me production wise. You’re nuts.
quote:
They aren’t 100s of miles apart but they are going in different directions to a certain extent.
Man I really thought this got better each episode.
quote:
I have heard that Episode 6 which is the last one screened to critics is the best episode
to this:
quote:
I had many reservations throughout the process based on comments Rafe made. I hoped for the best.
It was pretty clear that he just wasn't able to separate his politics from the production.
He made it a point throughout to hire as many women and minorities for the writing room and directors chair as he could. Some had some pretty questionable CVs, in my opinion.
It showed.
quote:
I read an interview with Rafe two days ago where he said going in he knew that he would lose pretty much all book fans (and I am paraphrasing here), but that he couldn't care at all about that because he had to adapt an entire series and make it appeal to as wide a non-fantasy audience as possible.
This was a colossally stupid miscalculation on his part.
Obviously, A LOT has to change in order to adapt 14 books.
But core things should have stayed as close to the source as possible. You keep book fans happy for S1 before the major cuts need to happen. AND...there's reason the series is so popular. It is good.
He let hubris and his politics get in the way.
I should have known about year ago when he made a joke about asking Sarah Nakumura during the writing process if Perrin could talk to Bears instead of wolves (and apparently this was a real idea).

This show is just beyond bad.
I actually like the lighting though
Over shows making me wonder if my brightness isn't on the correct setting.

Hey I’m at least saying you own it. I have nothing but appreciation for your love of the series.
Sneaky and Jay Are are still making up the world as they go along to match whatever the showrunners say Jordan actually meant 30 years ago.

And to be clear I am not as down on it as some of you.
But I have had issues with it while still enjoying it for the most part.
2nd viewings were better than firsts.
I'll give S2 a chance.

I really could never agree with any of the excuses (about time restrictions) being the cause of the show's failures. They have never attempted to tell the central stories. The people running the show apparently dislike the major characters.
The three most important characters aren't the center (for reasons that appear to be based in identity politics). They really aren't even compelling in the reduced time they are allowed (Perrin coming across like a low grade mongoloid is unlikely to result in positive audience response).
The good part about this is the whole series should be rapidly forgotten and eventually someone else will make a real attempt to bring the story to a non reader audience.

You know exactly why he did it. The scene in Tarwin's Gap should tell you all you need to know.
As I said earlier, his politics rules every decision he makes.

This storyline was totally worthless. Was that warder even mentioned in the books at all?

Well Jay Are automatically loves anything SJW although he still denies SJW even exists in TV.
