Both characters in the movies in the OP, the lead male is 30 years old IRL and in the movie. No one has ever had qualms about 30 year olds dating 40-50 year olds in any direction

The zeitgeist has been for many women to speak negatively about men dating younger women.

Which I find inconsistent when I've always known young women to date older men when they are younger (they are the supply).

Or fantasize about trysts with younger men (movies already referenced, Stella's Got Her Groove, etc). Or act on that impulse (countless teachers sleeping with students).

The critical commentary just rings hollow because of the collective hypocrisy. But people are generally hypocrites so I expect the movies will continue to have an audience.

You’re making a false equivalency. The negative feedback on that is when the women are in the 18-22 age group with much older men. Similar criticism has been thrown at older women with younger men as well however, like with Aaron Taylor Johnson and the older female director.

And to an extent I agree some of those criticisms can often be pretty teeth less and infantizing for the younger person when they are like 22-25. But that’s not really apples to apples in these movies when all the parties are certified grown as people (30 and up)
