Halo. I was waiting twenty years for a Halo product.

I don’t think it’s happening.

Wheel of Time. I know there’s a show on Amazon by that name but it’s completely unrelated to the Wheel of Time books.

Tom Wolfe’s A Man In Full set in 1990s Atlanta (the Netflix miniseries released is set in the present day and the time change was the tip of the iceberg on how bad it was)

The Darwath Trilogy (and the expanded universe that's followed). Great story(ies) and great reading. But I just can't see any way anybody could make anything other than a cheesy B movie/series out of it - and even that would probably get screwed up awkwardly in several ways.

Footfall (though this is a single novel - so not sure it counts) is probably another. I'm normally a fairly creative mind, or atleast consider myself such, but I can't see any way to make that movie reflect the quality of the book and also be any good.

Along the lines of this topic, Battlefield Earth is one of the worst movies ever made of what was actually a pretty darn good read - though again a single (huge) novel.

The Uplift Universe by David Brin gets my honorable mention. I don't think there is any hope they could make a movie to capture that story. However a movie series or, far more plausibly, a TV series... that's maybe doable... with the right production and a patient audience.

Some things Hollywood should just leaved untouched.

Between the unlimited ability of CGI and animation I don't think there's anything that can't technically be done nowadays. Anything you can imagine can be realistically portrayed now.

So it's not about that, it's about the story/plot/style.

Because Hollyweird has completely been overrun with THE MESSAGE, they just can't stop themselves from inserting it in to every IP. Until that sickness is rooted out, I hope they don't even try to create movies/TV shows about the stuff you guys have mentioned above.

But if they were able to just tell the fricking story the way it was written, I'd like to see a ACCURATE version of Tarzan. And ACCURATE version of A Princess of Mars.

Elric of Melnibone would be awesome if they actually showed him as the anti-hero he is.

I agree. It would have to be animated to work well.

Would gladly take an ani aged series. Nothing at all wrong with that. Animated Batman is still the best.

The visuals are no longer a hinderance (there was a time when a Fantastic Four film was out of the question, now we're on the fourth live action version) so I'm guessing that social issues would be the main roadblock?

Tarzan was thought to be a dead film franchise, but the last version with Skarsgård did a great job of "updating" the franchise by bringing forward the portions of Burroughs' stories that play well to modern audiences, as well as fitting in historical characters that work with Tarzan's origin story. The casting was fine but the writing wasn't stellar and the visual effects were so-so. But it showed that you could take the most outdated "racist" franchise and update it for today's world without destroying it.

I think someone could have done this story justice if they were not rushed and forced to squeeze every nickel out of the ip.

I'll add another old old series that could be cool if done right:

Doc Savage

I'd love to see The Guns of the South

I'd love to see a 3-4 season proper treatment of Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman done on Max or better. Sadly, ol' boy's extracurriculars are going to get some really great TV shows canceled.

I would love a good Dresden Files series, but it would need to strike the right tone between serious noir detective and magical whimsy and I don't know if modern Hollywood could do it.

Also, there's no way they'd do Michael Carpenter justice. Best "Holy Knight" depiction I've ever read.

Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms novels from back in the day were awesome, but I doubt adaptations would be very good.
