The Secret History- Donna Tartt
and
Invisible Monsters- Chuck Palahniuk

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt was a book I wanted to be a movie, and apparently it's been made and will release sometime next October.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

It's been said to be in the works for years...I'm still waiting.

Eye of the Needle by Ken Follett - One of my all time favorite books

Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy
quote:

is a 1986 techno-thriller novel by Tom Clancy and Larry Bond about a Third World War between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Warsaw Pact forces, set around the mid-1980s. Though other novels deal with a fictional World War III, this one is notable for the way in which numerous settings for the action—from Atlantic convoy duty to shooting down reconnaissance satellites to an amphibious assault on Iceland to tank battles in Germany—all have an integral part to play on the outcome. It was also unusual in its depiction of a World War III fought exclusively with conventional weapons, rather than escalating to the use of weapons of mass destruction or nuclear warfare.

Fool by Christopher Moore - retelling of King Lear, the book was hilarious
The camel club series by David Baldacci
The Yard by Alex Grecian - gruesome post ripper era London. New murders are happening and scotland yard is desperate not to have another Ripper.

The two obvious ones: Catcher in the Rye and A Confederacy of Dunces.

That movie has been done. I wanna say Kate Nelligan was in that, and maybe Donald Sutherland if I remember correctly. It came out years ago. That's the one that takes place along the English shore maybe in a lighthouse right?

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

Actually, I'd rather have a Neverwhere TV series a la American Gods and soon to be Good Omens.

I'd like to see "Eagle in the Snow", a novel about a Roman general trying to prevent a massive Barbarian horde from crossing the Rhine and invading Gaul...and then the river freezes over.

I want more movies about comedians travelling through time getting into historical hijinks.

I want a movie about Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders.

Benedict Arnold -- a mediocre movie in the '50s had BA as a supporting character, and there was a TV version in the '90s w/Kelsey Grammer (?!?) as George Washington

Julian by Gore Vidal -- Julian the Apostate was the Roman emperor who attempted to restore the pagan gods to Christianized Rome. Vidal insisted he did not intend the story as a metaphor for the decline of western civilization, but it's very tempting to see it that way. Vidal's novel Creation would make a great miniseries.

Not comic -- at least not intentionally -- but you might like this:

Trivia: Dennis Hopper was in the original cut as a passenger on the Titanic, but all his scenes were deleted from the TV print.

There was at least one silent film, and a Virginian episode features Teddy w/the boys

A few of the Greg Iles books could be turned into solid movies

I think the KOTOR storyline from the original game was ripe for a fresh series of Star Wars movies. For a game it was excellent.

But alas...we get back stories on every original character they can come up with.

There was a very good, rather authentic TNT movie/miniseries about 20 years ago entitled "Rough Riders". John Milius (Red Dawn) directed and co-wrote it; it had Tom Berenger as Roosevelt and host of other stars in historical roles, including Gary Busey, Sam Elliott, Brian Keith, George Hamilton, and R. Lee Ermey.

It has been on Netflix in the past, may still be.

My mother worked at the LSU Press when that book was originally published. Apparently there have been all kinds of pain-in-the-arse legal issues as to why that book has not been made in to a movie.

Reading now. Excellent book. Just got to the night bridge scene and had to put it down for the night. For some reason, it struck a cord in me.

This was originally written as a screenplay for BBC, but they cut out most of his favorite scenes, so he decided to put it in novel form to see his true vision.

I would watch a movie of Jefferson Davis as protagonist.
