Hell or High Water (2016) is my favorite movie from the last five years. If I'm still alive, I think I'll be recommending it to young whipper-snappers.

Uncut Gems and Good Time. I truly believe the Safdie Brothers have the potential to have an incredible directing career in the years to come.

I sort of get what you are saying. I think The Last Jedi will be studied in film schools for decades... on what not to do for a franchise.

BladeRunner 2049 is in my top 10 movies of all time. Classic story of what it means to be “human.” Amazing cinematography. It’s superior to the original in every way and stands alone even if you have no connection to the original. Ryan Gosling’s blank stare fits his character.

It may be overlooked. But it deserved every award it won and every award it didn’t. I look forward to Dune.

What do you consider recent?

Wes Anderson will probably have a re-emergent following in the next generation, so I’ll go with Moonrise Kingdom, or if we’re being even more liberal with the term “recent”, I’ll add Rushmore.

The top Coen Brothers films will be considered classics (not sure if their best films count as recent).

Good mentions so far for Fury Road and Ex Machina

I think other board favorites in NCFOM, Wall-E, and Pan's Labyrinth are also solid answers

What is your idea of "recent". I'm Using anything made after 2000:

Tropic Thunder

Avengers

Avengers Infinty War

Avengers Endgame

The Harry Potter Films

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood

Zodiac

Inglourious Basterds

Wall-E

Idiocracy

The Dark Knight

Avatar

Birdman

Maybe 30 years will give society enough time to figure out what was said in the movie
