And pt. 2 (if you want to answer), who would you want to direct it?

The lord of the rings trilogy, either filmed as 6 separate movies, or a television show spanning 3 seasons.
The game of thrones directors would be great.

I was heartbroken watching that shitshow as a little kid. He-Man deserves better!

World War Z--I'd like to see it done in episodic fashion by the Season 1 of True Detective people.
There are so many episodes in the book that would be made for that format. I didn't hate the movie, but it's impossible to adapt the source material to a single movie.

Midway
But honestly any of the 60s and 70s WWII movies. People will probably get rustled because they're attached to some of them (for good reason, on some) but that doesn't mean they can't be updated to reinforce the significance of these events with modern filmmaking.
I loved the original True Grit and enjoyed the updated one, etc.

For me it would have to be a movie that had a good premise but just missed the mark for some reason.
Legion, Jumper, and Eragon come to mind.
ETA: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and The Happening.

I nominate Flight of the Navigator. Nothing wrong with the original, but new tech could make this craft bad to the bone.

A war movie can totally be redone and even enhanced.
Modern visual effects can give a more immersive experience of war than was possible back in those days. The D Day airdrop in Overlord is a good recent example of tech improvements and how they can enhance war sequences.
Just don't go cartoony CGI crazy or screw up the story and acting and you can have a good, respectful updated version that can enhance the battle scenes.

I agree. I don't blame people who don't trust modern Hollywood not to muck up the story, but hopefully that could be avoided. There is a wealth of content there and with a new generation growing up largely without war stories from grandparents, it'd be a good time for it IMO.
