The Jerry Seinfeld model, but for films.
Jerry was incredibly awkward - and he was playing HIMSELF.
Just to circle back - obviously, that's Ben's father as Frank Costanza - for those who didn't already know.

Everyone says that - they were old school variety artists and that was a collaborative model - you couldn't get anywhere back then if you were hard to deal with, unless you were an A+ lister like Marilyn Monroe.
But, Ben is technically Hollywood Royalty and most of them aren't worth a flip, personality wise. Everything has been handed to them.

They should've named it something else. It has little to do with the original film or the short story. The wife is supposed to be repulsive.
I had no clue it was from pre-existing source material.
I bet most don’t.

Is that the dad from Beethoven?
(yes I know he's in other shite, but I'm a child of the early 90s)

As opposed to this lateral move.

Yes. It's the "I had a schedule and now it's ruined and now I'll never have that schedule again" dad.

I like him in Starsky and Hutch.
Im guessing people think it is shite compared to his other stuff. Think I like it bc my dad liked the orignal and I saw the flick with him.
Also, the "Do It" .gif is pretty famous, so there is that

One of his funniest moments is when he finds Grace his new bride fricking the French dude with the flippers.
And then he tells Luben the story of the Hippo.
And then has to catch a ride on his Scooter to the airport.
When I first saw that scene "I nearly sharted."
Rain dance!
And yeah, you're right, Phillip Seymour Hoffman carries that movie.

I'm in the 'He makes me uncomfortable' camp. I think Next of Kin (1989) was the first time I remember him. I don't know if he was badly, or brilliantly cast as the mobster sniveling son/nephew/whatever he was. Movie had some odd castings in that though... Liam Neeson, Helen Hunt, etc.
Reality Bites (1994)is what I really got my impression of him from, and I always think of him as that guy. As others have said, he plays an a-hole like that guy well. Maybe that's why he really turned into an a-hole. Maybe he got mad about being typecast as a a-hole.
I like him in small doses like in Happy Gilmore. Have never seen Heavy Weights, or watched all of Zoolander. I did enjoy There's Something about Mary, and the first Meet the Parents. Haven't really watched many in between all of those. Really haven't watched much since either.

Has anyone seen Brad’s Status? The plot description looks like it’s be right up my ally but it also looks like it might be boring.

Meet the Parents, Zoolander, Tropic Thunder and Dodgeball are excellent
Overall he's an above average comedy actor IMO. His ventures into more serious roles haven't gone well though.
