What happened to Will Smith's career

For nearly a damn decade this guy was the biggest box offi e star in the world and was king of the blockbuster.
I'd watch anything with him in it at the theater and you knew you were going to get great big screen entertainment.... And then it was all gone.
I have no desire to see Bad Boys 3 at all. I don't get it, it's like he lost his charisma or something but didn't.

He picked some bad movies that ranked, his kids are weird, and he decided to share his opinions on things that rub people the wrong way

Really really poor project selections. Didn’t Tarantino initially want him for Django, but he passed?

He's still getting roles. He's fine

He played a gay dude (before everyone in film was gay) in his first legit movie role, then never took another risk in his career. Sad.

Sometimes these conjoined together...I’m looking at you After Earth.

His movie career was really on top from 1996 till 2007. Everything since then has been a dud.

I will say he lucked out on getting cast for Aladdin. Disney is a cash cow.

Bright was a big hit for Netflix and they're making a sequel. I know everyone hated Suicide Squad but I thought he was one of the best parts. I'm looking forward to Bad Boys 3. Will and Martin Lawrence have good chemistry.

Him being a terrible terrible actor has a lot to do with it.

Some money grabs, some decent ideas that failed and pushing his kid into his movies.
Can't say I blame him much on any front. Money grabs are nice. We all wish we could be paid large sums of cash for few months of work.
Some projects look great on paper and end up terrible for various reasons.
Most of us would give our kids lots of help to get them started. Unfortunately, his kid just doesn't have Will's skill. As a parent, he probably thinks his kid is better than him blinded by parental goggles.
And he has made a few outright bad script choices. One again probably enticed by the cash money.
I didn't realize it has been over a decade since the last Smith movie I liked and I only liked I Am Legend skipping the end and watching the cut ending.

IIRC, he took some shitty movies, especially After Earth in an attempt to give his son Jaden a career.
I think he specifically passed on Django to do After Earth.
In general, he hasn’t made either a critically acclaimed movie or a true hit in forever due to poor choices.
Wild Wild West used to be the outlier. It is now the norm.

Will Smith is the textbook case of shitty role selection.
He will always have enough charisma to be a player, but his career has been a pretty big waste compared to what it could have been.
