For the love of god, he 100% died at the end. It is not a debate. It is fact.

1. At the time, Chase pretty much said that Tony died . . . I'm not going to pull the interviews for you. They're easy to find.

2. The most reasonable and logical interpretation is that he died.

3. In the linked article in the OP, I think people really are missing what Chase is saying. He's not backtracking at all.

4. The ending was inspired. Terrific television.

It was left ambiguous in case someone wanted a movie or resumption of the series down the road. Art? BS. It was about potential money, if needed.

Chase says that Tony did not get whacked, as many fans speculated when their screens faded to black following the restaurant scene that ended the storied TV series (and which Hillary Clinton later parodied in a campaign ad).

First one I found on Google (besides the one from today) says the opposite

So Chase ends the series with a big "frick you" to the viewers.

Now he's giving a big "frick you" to his apologists that praised him for "killing" Tony.

Now you see how it feels.

Calling the final scene brilliant doesn't do it justice

Intentional fallacy - It doesn't matter what David Chase thinks. It's a work of art open to multiple interpretations.

IMO, tony is dead...the next logical shot in the sequence should be tony's POV of meadow entering the diner, but at that moment it is black...because he has a bullet in his head.

Yep. This is the correct answer.

That POV is set up earlier in the scene. There's a good youtube video on it.

When Camela enters we get a shot of Tony and then from his POV...when AJ enters we get a shot of Tony and then from his POV...when Meadow enters we get a shot of Tony and then...darkness.

Gandolfini is dead in real life so that's that. nobody wants to see Travolta playing Tony Soprano in a movie

No, it wasn't

It was a garbage cop out

You hated it until someone explained it to you.

Actually, like most people, you still hate it, but out of fear of being told "you just don't understand it", you make retarded claims like the one above.

The ending sucked.

You still mad? The shows been over 7 years. Get over it. You didn't understand it because it is a very complex scene. It's not completely spelled out for the viewer so you don't like or get it. But if you watch that scene it really is all right there for you. The way it was shot is magnificent.

So apparently Chase has backtracked. Not surprising.
quote:

“A journalist for Vox misconstrued what David Chase said in their interview,” reads a statement issued by Chase’s rep, Leslee Dart. “To simply quote David as saying, ‘Tony Soprano is not dead,’ is inaccurate. There is a much larger context for that statement and as such, it is not true."

Per Variety.

Oh so you do get it? Cause it seems to me that you don't because every time a thread is started about Sopranos you make damn sure to let everybody know that you thought it sucked. Well aight that's fine. But if you understand it, which clearly you don't, and it makes you mad still, you would see it for the masterpiece that it truly is. It blows just about every great series finale away except for The Wire's and Breaking Bad's
