What happened to Gerard Butler's career?

Does he just pick shitty movies or is he not offered anything better?
He was great in 300, his acting was good in Law Abiding Citizen, he's done musicals and comedies.
Is it that he can't shake the accent?
Has anyone underachieved relative to their initial momentum like he has?

Olympus Has Fallen is one of the best classical style action movies of the last 20 years. It’s so throwback 80s it’s amazing even complete with bad puns.

I just can’t suspend disbelief enough that 90+% of Secret service, knowing of the contingency where a mechanized brigade is the QRF in the event of an assault, would all run out of an armored building straight into machine gun fire.

Watched Den of Thieves (2018) last night and thought he was good in it.
