I really find Spielberg to be hit or miss.

I hated Bridge Of Spies

It’s a matter of opinion, but two of his I absolutely hate are 1941 and Close Encounters.
I think my big problem with Close Encounters is how built up it was over the years then, when I finally saw it, I said “That’s it?”
It’s just been done to death by every Sci Fi movie known to man since then so I find it doesn’t hold up well.
I’ll likely add The BFG to this list at some point, as I bought it for my kids but haven’t heard anything good about it.

The Tim Robbins scene plus the stupid happy ending with the kid ruin this movie.
With some very minor adjustments, this is a solid movie. I really liked the aliens. Loved when the hell broke loose.
Just some minor edits and I would really like this film.
Least favorite of movies I have seen
The Terminal
Lincoln (put me into a coma) sure DDL was great but overall the movie bored me to death and I usually love period piece movies.

No that's an entertaining flick. The son is annoying but otherwise, what do you expect from a War of the Worlds movie? It's not gonna be Shakespeare. It was far better than any of the recent world annihilation movies like Battleship, Battle of L.A. or 2012.

I like war of the worlds a lot for what it is.

A.I.
Spielberg was attempting to channel Kubrick - this was to be his film. He didn’t succeed. Still, it was quite good visually.
I’ve never liked Hook. Other than Hoffman, it was kinda blah.

A.I. could have been great if it had gone really dark...the first half was good...it just needed to take that next step of delving into darker territory.
But Spielberg had to be Spielberg. And we get redemption and happiness.
The movie feels like two movies.

I love The Terminal. I find that to be a very rewatchable movie.

You do realize that this is kind of like saying Stagecoach (1939) Youtube doesn't hold up well because every Western since then showed landscapes of the Southwest.
or
Sherlock Jr (1924) Youtube doesn't hold up well because every action film since, has had a chase scene.
Before Close Encounters, every movie with aliens showed them as a threat to mankind. By the climatic ending of it, we knew they weren't a threat to us, and we weren't trying to kill them.

Influential is good in that it sets the tone for the future of film.
It doesn’t necessarily make the film a good watch for anyone outside of film students breaking down why it was so influential.
If I wanted influential over entertaining, I would watch Birth Of A Nation.

Always. God-awful. Glorified Hallmark/Lifetime movie. Yep, don't care if it was a remake of a "classic".

The Post was very meh. Waste of a Sunday afternoon for me.

I enjoy the movie because of Williams and Hoffman. Oddly enough, that's one of Spielberg's movies that even he doesn't like. Iirc, he won't even watch it because he was too disappointed with how it turned out.
My list would be
AI
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (and most of the dislike I have for that is shia labouf)

read the book but haven’t seen the movie, and that already sounds stupid.
Guess most book readers and Uber nerds on this board didn’t like it.
Too bad they missed out on an entertaining, fun, video game movie.

1941 was a good movie, many great inside jokes.
1941 the extended version is 27 minutes longer and is far better than the first run movie.
Steven has had a number of bombs, but 1941 isn't one of them, many at the time it came out were looking for another Jaws, Close Encounters etc., it made money just not the large money of his earlier hits.
