I liked Charlton Heston and Anthony Zerbe (Matthias) in The Omega Man.

This Wikipedia link is to List of apocalyptic films Lists a lot of movies. Not necessarily "initial collapse".

Planet of the Apes (Heston again)
Book of Eli
Terminator
Babylon A.D. (Alread posted by someone else.)
The Day of the Triffids (I'm old!)
Blade Runner

The Tom Cruise WAR OF THE WORLDS. But CHILDREN OF MEN is the gold standard.

OMG you are right. I made that vehicle from Damnation Alley in lock blocks so many times! I even recall answering a trivial pursuit question with The Day After thinking it was Damnation Alley and getting it right for some reason. smh.

On Topic: I liked 28 Days later, but the reference to Black Mirror is also a good one.
