i haven't gotten around to watching this season yet and i've seen random comments here or there about how bad season 2 is (the latest was in the true detective thread). is it really that bad? is having a more linear plot and removing the mystery the issue or a tonal shift or what?

It’s a much less linear plot actually

I liked Season 2 a lot.

I actually really liked it and find it refreshing to have a cerebral sci fi show
Anthony Hopkins is and always will be a beast, just sayin

Same. I enjoy having a show make me think. This season was a bit more than I would like but it was still very well done. I found myself watching each episode a couple times and will most likely go through and binge the whole season.

Much of it was done without purpose. Multiple plot lines were either completely pointless or never had a resolution and felt like a waste of time. Timeline jumping was rampant and much more difficult to discern even at the end because you had only a split of 11 or less days and everyone looks the same. Not sure if I’ll even rewatch to get a better understanding. I’d be skipping through most episodes.

My big gripe with it is that I don’t really give a shite about any of the characters. And if one dies, they’ll just be back the next show or a few down the line. There just doesn’t appear to be any high stakes at play. No one has anything to lose.

I didnt enjoy it nearly as much as season 1.

It’s not terrible television or anything. I would say the jumping around in time got annoying at times. It often felt like they were messing with the timeline to confuse viewers more than make for a compelling story.

Production value is still top notch, but the writing was garbage. Wasn’t half as good as S1

Yep. We are in the golden age of TV. There are tons of great shows out there, and Westworld is now not one of them. Season 1 was terrific, this was a mess.

I deleted it from season pass

Definitely not linear. The plot meanders at times, but I found it finished strong. I enjoyed it less than the first season, but still enjoyed it immensely.

It was entertaining just not as good as season 1. I didn't like the direction they took several characters

That sucks. I was looking forward to season 2. I have other stuff to watch if everyone thinks it’s that bad

The only thing I thought was really that bad was Evan Rachel Wood's voice she uses for the entire season. I enjoyed the season a lot though.

I thought it was both good and a jumbled mess. They had 3 different timelines going, I think largely to avoid spoilers if played linearly, but since it was 3 instead of 2 it was often hard to tell which timeline you were watching. I both enjoyed it and felt unfulfilled by the end. They could have fixed a lot just by giving a visual cue about which timeline you were watching.

You and SFP both need to watch Barry. Only 8 30min episodes, by far the best thing I’ve seen on TV this year

This. I got sick of everyone but the Man in Black and his daughter. I found myself hoping everyone else would just die.
