Okay. Maybe I need to go back and watch it earlier than one am.

I realize this is a complex concept for you to grasp, but people are actually capable of having different opinions than you about plotting and pacing. People who are afraid to criticize or question a "smart" show are just afraid of looking dumb
I’m definitely not afraid to criticize Westworld, I do it frequently. But we all knew this would be a ghost-Nation centric episode, and they could have botched it, but they nailed it. If you find the imagery scenes where it’s just music and landscape as a hindrance to plot progression that’s fine, but it’s one of the things that makes this show great in my opinion.
The plot definitely thickened in this episode even if most of it happened in the final 20-25 minutes. In my opinion, an episode is like a sporting event, it all builds up to the thrilling conclusion. If the plot was driven forward rapidly in every episode we wouldn’t get the pleasure of more seasons of Westworld. It’s nice to flesh these things out and get this context.

What an awesome episode. Also loved the Nirvana music

Can one of you who enjoyed this episode so much explain to me why?
It delivered an interesting and relatable character story in a season that has had issues doing that. In doing that, it didn’t skimp on story progression and tied together the Ghost Nation/Man in the Maze thing in a better way than I could have expected.

This season has been so disappointing. It’s become a chore to watch this show. (Aside from Riddle of the Sphinx) It’s boring, nothing makes sense, these new characters are not interesting, and even the old ones who were, are not anymore. The only thing that was interesting was going to be the dynamic between MiB and his daughter and then they swiftly cut that off. A filler episodes with 80% monologue, subtitles, of a pretty much new character, 8 episodes in? frick this show.

I agree the beginning of the season was bad (up till Riddle). I’ve mostly enjoyed the latter part.
I think giving Akecheta more story was good. I think the Bernard stuff has been good.
On the other hand this show can’t write an action scene to save their lives. I also don’t think the mixed timeline has done them any favors this season.

And when Akecheta had his run-in with Ford, I think it was the legit first time in the series we see Ford clearly surprised by something. He had been putting so much of his attention toward baby steps with Dolores, and the park, that he completely overlooked the development of Akecheta that seemed to happen almost completely on its own. Once again, Hopkins is such a powerful force on film, even if it's for a few moments. He can express so much by saying and showing so little.
IMO, one of the best lines from Ford in this episode to Akecheta. "You were a flower growing in the dark".

This is also why i don't really like rating episodes - each season is its own entity, each episode is just like a chapter. I don't rate books by chapters, it is the totality - an episode that reveals a lot, like i though this episode did, may not be the most exciting or best, but it is very important to the overall story.
Westworld is one of my favorite series i've ever watches, its a real in depth story with incredible character development. Plus i read a ton of fantasy and sci fi and this series does an incredible job of translating some of those tropes to the tv screen.

quote:That was great! Ford, who has his hands, and eyes, on everything in the park finally had something going on he hadn't realized was happening. It leads to the question of when he actually realized Akecheta was "woke" and how that may have influenced his philosophy moving forward with the other Hosts.
And when Akecheta had his run-in with Ford,
I thought this episode was excellent. It tied a lot of story lines from both seasons together and gave us the back story of the Ghost Nation and Ake (who we were lead to believe was a boogie man of sorts and one of the GH warriors through Mauves eyes). The cinematography was some of the best, if not the best, of the series. I also like how the maze was reintroduced back into the story again and the significance it had/has.
Not much to pick apart in this show for me except maybe how Ake found his woman and tribe mates in storage so quickly. But I can chalk that up to artistic license. They could have spent an hour of him dying and searching over and over until he found them.
On a personal side we have Direct TV and a Thunderstorm came through with about 10-15 minutes left in the show and we lost the signal. WOW what an important 10-15 minutes that was! I had to wait to re-watch in it's entirety last night. I'm glad I avoided any spoilers in between. We missed the Ford scene and Emily coming to retrieve William. But I enjoyed seeing the first 3/4 of the show over again anyway. Probably watch it one more time before next weeks episode.

Good point. Especially since originally he was opposed to Arnold’s vision for the hosts and didn’t think that Host conciousness could be achieved
And you know it’s also interesting that the way Arnold thought Delores would gain that by shooting him. Interestingly enough that did not give Delores the desired effect, but it did however have the desired effect on Akecheta
I feel like in a way, Delores brutality is needed to take over the humans, but it’s Maaves and Akchetas compassion and suffering that is what Fords/Arnold’s real hope for the Hosts is

A little thing I really liked:
They made a point to show a fly on Ake's hand in Escalante when he saw they maze, but Ake didn't kill it. Delores, on the other hand, killed her fly in episode 1.
As someone mentioned before, this is leading up to a clash between the benevolent and malevolent. The fly is symbolic of Ake's appreciation for life. Ake is Jesus-like in the way he teaching and gathering his people. He is the ying to Delores' yang.
Earlier this season, Delores shot a Ghost Nation warrior and said that some aren't meant for the next world (or whatever that line was), but we know that Ake woke up all of his tribe first. Ake is allowing people to wake up on their own, but Delores is making her own determinations. All interesting stuff.

The fly was a nice touch on it's own. I had totally forgot about Dolores killing that fly in season 1.
I had thought there was going to be a showdown of sorts between Dolores and Mauve but now it's looking more like Dolores and Ake.
Your observation of the fly reminded me that it was Dolores who put the "violent delights have violent ends" in Mauves ear but, as we now know, it was Ake who kept showing her the maze. They both seem to have had an influence in helping Mauve become awake. So if Dolores is the ying to Ake's yang then it appears Mauve is the balance between the two.
ETA: Mauve wanted to tear down the guests and workers (Violent ends...etc.) like Dolores who is hell bent on getting to the Valley Beyond but was also driven to search for her child and find the way out (The maze leading to the door) like Ake.

Sorry to bring this thread back up but I was out of town for a week in a half starting right after this episode and just watched it.
The timeline you posted (posted below) is not 100% accurate. The first item at the top of right hand side leaves out a small piece of information. I am a big Zahn McClarnon fan from Fargo and Longmire.
The item posted should include Akecheta who was the true salesperson to convince Logan to get his dad to invest in Westworld. When he froze the hosts he was still "human" and alive.
As far as the episode I thought it was great. The part where he stole Kohana and told her "when you leave, take my heart" and she was suddenly "awoke" was fantastic.
The only thing that surprised me is how the indian tribe just allowed MIB's daughter to come cruising in and taking her dad.
