Yep, via a meteor. A shapeshifter & evil illusionist from the Macroverse.
Pennywise killed the dinosaurs... Probably

A good theory I’ve heard is the baby is pennywise rebirth. It’s him early in his cycle after 27 years dormant.

They’re turning it into a Hollywood cash cow. Nothing will ever beat the 1990 original miniseries.

Agree. Even say it’s just a bunch cracker arse shite. Hollywood being Hollywood.

2nd episode incredibly boring.

Whole show is horrendous

As soon as I saw that it was being directed by the same hack who directed the 2017 film, I knew it would be trash.
At its core, the story of IT isn’t a mindless gore fest with jump scares. It’s a psychological noir meant to serve as a metaphor for how terrible people are in society are and makes you question whether there’s some omnipresent force that’s driving them to behave that way (hence the character of Pennywise).
The 1990 series captured at least some of this by not showing everything on screen and putting more emphasis on having dreary atmosphere with depressing music.
I would do anything to see an original adaptation of the novel with an older veteran actor who has a wide range of roles. No disrespect to Bill Skaarsgard, but that guy is a terrible actor.

I was about to say. Even if someone hasn’t read the book the second most recent IT movie established Pennywise is an alien/cosmic entity. The talk the adults had with the Indian shaman dude established that. Pennywise wasn’t birthed as a fricked up demon baby

Season 1 is based in 1962
This is what’s confusing me and my memory might be foggy since I haven’t read the book since college. Why is Pennywise up and about in 1962? Or is what we are seeing right now in the show something else?

Should have been a giant space turtle.

Enjoyed episode 2 way more than episode 1
The horror scenes were great
Anyone complaining about the race stuff doesn't know the backstory within IT, already mentioned. It was one of the more interesting parts of the book IMO.

Plus it's 1962. It's accurate that a black officer would deal with some racism. The ones complaining always complain. Called that before the show started.

Dick Hallorann?
If there was any question about the tie when he was introduced in the first episode, there isn't now.
I was a bit disappointed that the name of the store the wife went into wasn't "Needful Things."

Based on movie time line, every 27 years. IT part 1 is 1989, part 2, 27 years later, is 2016 where the losers end it, 1962, 27 years earlier, is the tv show before part 1.

That's exactly true. My hope is that they don't lean into it too much considering they seem to be trying to portray Derry as being a place fairly lacking in racism for that period (ex: the conversation with the butcher).

Gotcha. Going with the movie timeline and not the book timeline.

They just can't help themselves.
I'm anticipating a gay or tranny story line to creep its way in.

Ironic part is that they're equally upset by the use of the word "cracka". That Blacks can be racist too on film, you'd think would be celebrated by these detractors.

should be safe since it takes place in the 60s
