The documentary was a little all over the place but one thing is true is that place was a ticking time bomb the very first day. The Offspring lead singer addressed the crowd telling them to stop groping girls crowd surfing. Fred Durst telling the crowd to break shite wasn’t exactly helping things. If the same music played in 94 was played in 99 it probably doesn’t go as south as it did. It was pretty much throwing a bunch of college kids in a tight area for a few days with no water or food. They basically had no security and having angry music played wasn’t a good mix. All it took was a few assholes to do dumb shite to turn it into a lot of people doing dumb shite.

Nobody gave a shite about Fred Durst. He was like the Joe cocker of rock n rap. Everyone knew they sucked

I don’t get this comparison at all. Fred Durst obviously sucks, but Joe Cocker has an amazing voice.

Limp Bizkit, Rage, Metallica was the end of day 2. I don’t remember much of day 3 being bad at all until the middle/end of the RHCP set. From there, half the folks left and the other half destroyed the place.

Ripping the plywood off during off of the tower during the Limp Bizkit set made for a good visual, but everything was fine by the next morning, and the day 3 music was more chill.

Yeah, I remember the narrative both being kind of “boys will be boys” and some downplaying of the groupings/rapes. Definitely remember a lot of criticisms of the organizers/promoters.

Here is your correct answer. These things are getting more and more ridiculous with the organizers cutting corners to make more money. The Fyre Festival proves it is still going on.

Watched it. My friends and I had tickets but ended up selling them for way more than we paid so didn’t go. We weren’t going to see Limp Bizkit or Fred Durst I think even by that time most people considered them a joke. Brought back memories of how awful Carson Daly was. The guy had a huge hand in destroying MTV. Have to laugh at the white rage angle that’s ridiculous. Also reminds me what awful people greedy and selfish Boomers are. They are absolutely going to suck this country dry until they are all dead.

I havent watched the documentary.

But i think it was $5 for 1 bottle of water in 1999 at a 3 day festival during a claustrophobic heat wave. Thats pretty fricked up. Imagine paying $10 for the beer and then needing water to rehydrate because "its what your body needs".

Spinoff jokes were about free entry to concerts but $100 to leave and $5 to use the restroom while you stay.
People always should be responsible and accountable for their actions, but there wasnt much of a veil over the motivation for poor planning.

1999 dollars are different than today dollars.

AND this was a 3 day concert. Needing water for a 3 hour baseball game is very different than what happens to the body with dehydration after 1 day in the sun.

For the record, sporting events that i go to allow food/drink to be brought in if unopened.

i love this criticism what did people think it was a charity? Even a non-profit for a cause event charges for food and beverages. That said its pretty ridiculous to not allow people to bring water or snacks for a 3 day fest in freaking July when they are staying on the grounds. Some kids with their own water and some chips are not harming your profit margin.

massive poorly planned

this is my biggest take away, how poorly planned it was and what a joke the security was. They barely mentioned it, like one segment but the "security" went thru a 3 hour training that was 2 hours of the guy going thru the test questions. They were militant about keeping out food/water but no where to be seen in the areas where the problems were.

The clips from the press conferences were also hilarious, like day 1 just general questions but the press gets increasing hostile as it goes on. John Scher comes off as a clueless douche, blaming the bands and the kids to avoid taking responsibility like a gutless coward

they said the water was $4 which is the equivalent of $6.50 today. But some EMT said beer was the same price, if that's true that's unbelievably stupid of course the avg 23 yo will get a beer over a water at the same price.

this is a very important distinction. Lang said they has free water with those troughs but people was jumping in them and washing themselves, if it was meant to be free water to drink, it should have changed several times a day that speaks volumes to the poor planning.

The Fyre doc is even funnier. Social media, idiots and paying thousands for a tent. Also on Netflix.

That doc definitely gave me some nostalgia. I was 19 at the time, and a big fan of a lot of those bands. Say what you want about Limp Bizkit and Korn, but they put on some awesome live shows.

The shite show part is 100% on promotors and organizers. If they would have done what EVERY rock concert I have been too in the 90's/2000's they passed out water in the front. I have seen anything from the paper cones to gallon jugs to regular bottled water passed out. When fires start maybe that is when you shut things down, it is amazing what a buzzkill flicking the lights on and turning the sound off does and kills a crowd.

If you watch, it is a small minority doing the destructive shite. When they show them breaking down the wall it is a damn near ghost town compared to the other shots.

Every girl going up to crowd surf was first told by at least a dozen guys that guys were going to grab her tits and every girl did it anyway. They KNEW what was going to happen, no 90's chick expected to crow surf and not get grabbed. The thing is you have like 1% of douchebags grabbing and 99% trying to be respectful, why you get passed along 1000 guys that is 10 guys going for your tits.

frick you judging what music other people like. I don't know why ya'll think this "aggressive" music turns people into animals, there just happened to be a few dumbasses in the crowd that made everyone look bad.

Now, the theme of the documentary, why are white males angry? Well shite, white males are the only people that get blamed for everything. It is the only group of people that can be legally discriminated against in this country. It is a miracle that white males are not MORE ANGRY and if white males wanted to they could rule this country without input from anyone else. White males are not angry enough, the actions just need to be meaningful and not stupid destruction of other peoples property. How can anyone blame a white dude for being angry with society?

Final thought, the only people that like douchebag frat bros are other douche bag frat bros. Frats are weird as frick.

Agreed. 19 year old me enjoyed that music and still puts it on from time to time.

Limp Bizkit gets a bad rap, are they lyrical genius? Not by a long shot but they were entertaining as hell. Borland can play a mean guitar. Durst just got a big head and became a douche.

I have two friends going to their concert in Chicago soon. I would go to one again.

Also, the documentary sucked. Moby is a bitch.

Blaming the music makes even less sense because the following summer Metallica had their Summer Sanitarium tour that included Kid Rock and Korn and nothing like that happened. The pussies in this doc sound like damn Tipper Gore
