I'll go on record Andy should've bagged Ms Peggy out of every woman in Mayberry. She came to help 2 nights when Bea wasn't in town and was a Dime. Ope was on board. Is Andy an incel?

BJ had a wife and caught feelings for a female reporter.

BJ came pretty close to cheating on his wife with a woman on the show, why try to rewrite the history of one of the most popular TV shows of all time? As far as Potter and Blake I agree with you, IMO Potter was just better overall to me.

You guys suck, everyone knows BJ wasn't actually gay but his character was pretty sucky and whiny.

Klinger wasn't actually a cross dresser either.

The episode when he finds out his mother knew where he was all that time still sticks out in my mind.

And the delicious part was that, to Norman Lear’s utter disgust , Archie Bunker became a folk hero Because of his frank gruff nature and unrepentant attitude.

Not exactly. Just like the Fonz in Happy Days, Archie became a popular character because the show was a hit. Norman Lear realized that he had to soften the character while trying to keep his basic personality. Just go back and compare the first two seasons to the last two. Archie was just a sweetheart at the end of the series run. They writers changed him.

He was trying to get kicked out the Army and gave up on it in the later seasons.

He was a hero to the same people who thought Stephen Colbert was being himself on The Colbert Report. You know, fricking morons.

They also thought Clayton Bigsby was a hero.

I don't think Cubans were considered a different race at that time.

I think you are forgetting how the show changed when Alan Alda started controlling things.

Long before woke even existed JerseyTiger used to rant on Alan Alda and Mash all of the time.

I liked it until the end but admittedly I haven't seen an episode in over a decade. Maybe two.

The subject line made me read through the whole thread just to see if anyone mentioned too many Koreans in the show.

Was MASH the original DEI show??

I was born in 1960.

When I was in college (1978 - 1982), MASH was rerun every day at night after the 10 pm news. I've seen every episode. It was definitely "woke" for its day.

I've also seen every episode of the original Star Trek. Even though the crew of the Enterprise was multi-cultural, I wouldn't call it "woke". My take-away at the time was that Star Fleet was a global, and even inter-galactic, organization, so it did not seem odd to my 8-year-old brain for the crew members to be portrayed as multiple nationalities (African, Asian, Russian, Scottish, etc.) and races (Vulcan). Adults may have interpreted that as a statement, but it seemed completely normal to me.

I remember the kiss between Kirk and Uhura being a big deal.
