His character seemed to change the most during his time on the show and it was believable to watch.

LMFAO! Nooooooo
Rainn Wilson carried that show.

As in the best performance on the show or best actor altogether? Regardless, I'd have to go with Steve Carell.

No.
The fact that the show dipped in quality so much when Steve Carell left is a testament to him. The fact that it didnt totally tank at that point is a testament to Rainn. The remaining ensemble was also solid, despite Pam's ever-increasing bitchiness.
Was Ed Helms the most ANNOYING actor on The Office? I could make a better case for that...

Helms was fine as Andy as far as acting goes. I think Carrell was the best actor. He was perfect in his role.
Andy's character was great early on, and I don't like how they neutered him later on in the series.

But Dwight never changed his character really.
I am talking about the actor’s ability to change his character and make it believable, not which actor was most important.

Loved him his first two seasons. He got super annoying though.

I think all the actors did amazing jobs. They all showed facial expressions, comedic timing, emotions.
I don’t know who was the best, but Michael proved to be the most important by far. He proved irreplaceable

Michael Scott and Andy were the only two I can think of who varied. Andy’s personality drastically changed and he pulled it off well. His later personality wasn’t fun but that’s not the actors fault.
Michael’s personality changes were more subtle and would vary according to the plot needs. Sometimes he was off the wall goofy (Prison Mike?), sometimes pathetic (whimpering before Stanley in Did I stutter?), but sometimes he was ultra competent. Steve Carrel did a great job.

The final two episodes redeemed him a bit, but what they did to the Andy character in the last couple of seasons was character assassination.

They made him so lame. He couldn’t possibly sustain that assholish level he initially had, but they took it too far the other way.

No but the wall punching scene was classic.

Ed Helms was annoying as hell and over acted.
I was very partial to Wallace whenever he showed up, it was so real. The look of bewilderment and angst on his face whenever he had to deal with the Scranton branch and Michael.
After that, Dwight was just flat-out entertaining, not necessarily the ‘best’ actor

The best actor overall is easily Steve Carrell
