I actually kind of like it.

I think some shows on streaming SHOULD be released weekly to build suspense and buzz.

A lot of that is ruined with binge.

Some shows are perfect for binging, others are not.

Disney is ahead of the game. This is going to be the future.

I bet in 5+ years there will be very few platform original shows on any platform that release all of the episodes at one time

I hope you're right. I hate all the episodes being released at once. No community to the viewing experience.

Me too. Helps with no spoilers/getting to talk with everybody about what is currently out (I dont have the time to binge watch) and it builds suspense. I wish Stranger Things or Peaky Blinders was released weekly. Even if I did binge watch stuff, its not going to cause me to cancel the service. I cant see myself unsubscribing to HBO because the episodes are not all released at the same time.

I would not be surprised at all if Stranger Things final season is done in this way.

I would also not mind if they did it in 2 episode blocks or something.

For certain shows, it would work.

Its not necessary for say, The Crown. Just binge that.

A show like Chernobyl was awesome as a week-by-week show. There was some great discussion during the week.

I want the community thing, but my schedule doesn't allow it, I prefer the binge.

I failed around here on the Fringe watch and rewatch threads, even though it was one of my favorite shows. All but the first 2-3 seasons of Lost. Etc. I don't see how people can sit down every week at the same time and watch television. There's a )% chance i have the same block of time week to week. And once you miss one episode and one conversation it's impossible to catch up to everything.

I never watch a show at the same time each week. This awesome thing came out what 10-15 years ago called DVR. Should check into it. Makes it super easy to watch a show when you have an open time for it. And now so many shows are on demand you don’t even need a DVR.

I like it a lot. Guarantee GoT wouldn’t have had NEARLY the following it had if it binge dropped each season. The community and discussions with coworkers and friends with what is coming next week is part of what made it so great.

I enjoy Stranger things. But the deepest discussion I’ve had about it was

“did you watch season three of Stranger things?”

“Yeah I did I thought it was pretty good”

“Cool”
“ yeah cool”

Game of Thrones (RIP Season 8) wouldn't have been nearly the juggernaut it was if it released weekly. I totally get why Disney is doing this and I actually prefer it.

Y'know, I get the griping about not being able to binge because you WANT to, but "I don't have the time" doesn't make any sense.

I mean, if you don't have 1 hour a week to stay current, how do you have 8+ to binge? It's not like you HAVE to watch it in that one hr period of release, it just means they will give you an episode every week.

So you enjoy or are intriguied by The Mandalorian enough that you want to binge it, but when you find out you can't binge it you just cancel Disney Plus all together so you don't see it at all?

Smart.

Unless you're a five year old, you grew up in a world without binging. Not sure why people suddenly can't go back to enjoying serialized entertainment (as we've done since the invention of the printing press).

At least now you have a choice. If you enjoy the community aspects of entertainment, watch it weekly. If not, sack up and wait for the series to end, then binge away.
