I thought it was a prophet or something? I never thought of it being a god or a ghost or something.
There was Odin who we saw in glimpses and at the beginning and then there was the blind man with black lips who I took as a soothsayer or prophet type person.

Last night I think I heard them say the second episode would be available on History's website.

After watching the 2nd episode it finally dawned on me who Ragnar reminds me of(no not Jax). He kind of looks like and his mannerisms are similar to Tom Hardy characters like in Lawless, This Means War, and to some extent Bronson

Tom Hardy characters like in Lawless
One of my favorite characters of the past year
Just started it but I thought this would focus on the Viking expansion, Erik the Red and possibly Harald Hardrada. I'm guessing these characters aren't based on much?
The beginning dates it to 793, which would be very close to the first recorded Viking raids of the North Sea areas- remember they mentioned "Russia" the the East which would be more like a bay when compared to the rocky waters of the North sea.
A quick wiki and found Lindisfarne, an island off the east coast of England, which was in coincidentally 793 to be raided by Vikings.
quote:
In 793, a Viking raid on Lindisfarne[8] caused much consternation throughout the Christian west, and is now often taken as the beginning of the Viking Age. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records:
In this year fierce, foreboding omens came over the land of Northumbria. There were excessive whirlwinds, lightning storms, and fiery dragons were seen flying in the sky. These signs were followed by great famine, and on 8 January the ravaging of heathen men destroyed God's church at Lindisfarne.
The more popularly accepted date for the Viking raid on Lindisfarne is 8 June; Michael Swanton, editor of Routledge's edition of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, writes "vi id Ianr, presumably [is] an error for vi id Iun (June 8) which is the date given by the Annals of Lindisfarne (p. 505), when better sailing weather would favour coastal raids."
Alcuin, a Northumbrian scholar in Charlemagne's court at the time, wrote:
Never before has such terror appeared in Britain as we have now suffered from a pagan race. . . .The heathens poured out the blood of saints around the altar, and trampled on the bodies of saints in the temple of God, like dung in the streets.
That's some real shite
Hope they don't gay up the place with a fraternal dispute over a hot "shield maiden". The creator wrote the Tudors.
Decent Article

Nice find, timeline is off, but interesting nonetheless
"In 845 Ragnall sailed southward with a force said to consist of 120 ships and 5,000 Viking warriors attacked and captured Paris."
God, they suck at fighting. Getting their arse kicked for a millennium

Yes. I watched episode one last night and it was very good. Acting is solid, several story lines were introduced. Everything a premiere episode should be.

So is this worth a watch?
Definitely... I'm trying to hold off on watching Episode 2 before Sunday, because I don't want to have to wait 2 weeks to get a new one

Very nice
BTW, anyone know how many episodes this season is gonna have?

Wonder how much they'll try to cover. I thought the episode preview spoiled the entire story or maybe they'll just cover a ton of stuff in the next few episodes.

Awww shite. I used to dig me some Tudors. real underrated, imo
And yeah, I watched both 1 and 2 tonight. I'm in this mf'er. Looks to be awesome.
Btw, is this a good or bad thing for the career of Gabriel Byrne? Idc, just asking opinions
And I'm digging Ragnar so far. Pretty badass. Hard to tell how far they're going to develop his character so far. I assume he'll be central to the storyline
