Pam was fine AF. My only gripe is that she hid the letter from Sissy to Bud and didn't come clean that she wasn't the one who straightened up Bud's trailer. That was a dick move.

That's part of the problem today, though. All of these trash pieces from BuzzFeed & ScreenRant about how Friends is "PrObLeMaTiC" on re-watch, or 10 phrases that people in their 70s use that sound highly out of touch to younger people Gen X totally overlooked... AGAIN).
Gen Z & Millennials have a distinct inability to view something for what it was in its time.

Bud, or at least his uncle, were the 70s version of plant baws, probably made a decent amount for the time
Bud was going to be making $16/hr if he got that promotion.
According to Google Gemini:
quote:
A promotion to $16/hour in 1980 would be worth approximately $62.42/hour today (in 2025), adjusted for inflation.
That's $125k/year before any overtime.

Bud definitely got overtime. He missed that dinner with Pam’s people so he could get in some OT. Not sure how much he spent at Gilly’s on a regular basis trying to be a real cowboy or vacations to the Angola rodeo.

Huntsville rodeo, not Angola

My #1 movie of all time.. Know every line so I can't watch it with anyone else

Not only was it authentic but also one of the most depressing period pieces of all time.

"what's your name?"
"Bud. How about you?"
"Sissy. Nice to meet you Bud"
"Pleasure"

Bud broke his arm when the mechanical bull slammed into him. Him falling off the scaffold happened earlier.
Ah yes, I remember that now. I think he was hanging by his leg? I haven't seen this movie in a very very long time, so my memory is not to be trusted. I need to rectify that

She did end up telling him.
Pam: Look, I'm a shite, but I'm not that big a shite. I have to tell you something, remember when you came home from ridding on the bull that first time and the trailer was all clean and flowers around; I didn't do that, Sissy did it, she was there. She left you a note asking you to phone her. I tore it up, cause I was sorta jealous. I wanted to keep my cowboy. You don't love me, Bud, and I don't really love you, not like that. So you shouldn't let her get away. But I tell you what, if you ever wanna make her jealous, you know where I am.

Oh, I know she came clean eventually. I was meaning at the time. I should've been more precise.
It's not like Bud was some prize.

"well that depends on what you think a real Cowboy is"
Grew up in League City. We went to Gilley's all the time in high school (before the movie came out) because they didn't really card people. Drank a shite ton of Gilley Beer there. Place transformed overnight to a tourist destination after the movie - improved the amount and quality of women, but it lost the redneck hole in the wall, cheap beer aspect that we loved. I've not seen more fights at a club in my life than at Gilley's - pretty much a nightly occurrence to see people fighting and the bouncers throwing people out the front door. Fun memories

Exactly. Bud should have never left Pam to go back to Sissy.
Pam would never have kept Bud. Daddy would not have approved.

thanks for the links to those photos. What a great collection.
Lynn Wyatt was (and still is) such a beautiful woman. My wife and I walked into the Carlyle Hotel probably 20 years ago and she was standing by herself waiting for her limo. My wife walked up to here and started talking to her. Just to say nice to see you Mrs Wyatt, we're from Houston in town for a few days. She was just so gracious - Where you live in Houston hon, where are you going to dinner tonight?" Great lady.

Pam was written as the perfect woman.
Pam knew she couldn't be loved by Bud like he did Sissy. If Pam knew he could win Bud's heart she would have never confessed about trashing Sissy's letter.
