Was the character of Scott supposed to be a throwback reference to Cary Elwes in the original?

Kind of looked like him, and he was a dick.

cheesiest, most unrealistic movie I’ve seen in my life

So it’s true to the original? :p

The first movie wasn’t even remotely realistic either.

My main gripe was people having a rodeo, baseball game and town festival or whatever when there is an ongoing tornado outbreak and the governor declared a state of emergency. Seems like they could have cancelled that stuff and people would have been safer but that’s probably too realistic for a movie like this where you turn your brain off and enjoy, which I did

Yeah this one kept making me chuckle in the theater

Constantly showing the news about a massive wave of tornados for the next week- and every time people reacted to a tornado coming like it was the first time that had ever happened or that they thought there was no chance

Softball game with metal bats may have been the most egregious example. But all the tornado guys deciding to go to the rodeo was also bad there

Also semi related, but again for an area directly in tornado alley that’s seeing insane tornados (and has a history of insane tornados as seen from the opening scene)- not a single building they go to has a storm shelter- not one

Well, that's because "These things are always false alarms".

I may have missed it, but why exactly was the rich land developer the bad guy again? I know they said "he takes advantage of people at their lowest" but was he low balling people badly or strong-arming them out of their land? It seemed like the dude was buying their property rather than making them go through insurance. If it was me I'm taking that check and getting the frick out of tornado alley.

Seemed like he was a scumbag for lowballing people who didn’t have insurance

Lowballing them compared to what exactly?

Saw it Friday almost just out of nostalgia. The first Twister was probably my first movie theatre memory. I went to see movies before this, but this was kind of a core memory as far as theatre experiences go.

I actually enjoyed the movie pretty good. Took it for what it is and definitely a good theatre experience if you just sit back and enjoy the ride.

The part that made me chuckle was that even when the final tornado had blown through almost the entire town, and had already blown up the power grid, the movie theatre they were taking shelter in still had power even while being blown away. The movie screen was literally being ripped apart and the movie was still showing. I was like what does it take for this town to lose power? A strong fart will blow the power out in my neighborhood

Caught it yesterday with the wife. We both liked it. It pales in comparison to the original, but that's a pretty high bar in terms of entertainment. But it was a solid sequel (or semi-sequel).

There was a lot of hilarity in it though.

I like the device of anchoring the truck to the ground during a tornado, but those screws going a foot into the soft, moist ground aren't gonna keep that truck from being swept away.

The movie theater having power as the town was ripped apart by a tornado was hilarious. I commented to my wife about that during that scene. Maybe they had a generator, because Lord knows when shite hits the fan and the power goes out people would rather be able to still watch movies than seek safety and shelter.

Kate stealing not one, but two trucks was hilarious.

The "bad man buying peoples' properties" angle was just weird and should've been fleshed out more. I get the whole "He's taking advantage of people" thing but was he doing that or was he offering them a quick and easy way out of their mess?

I always find it funny during disaster type movies when the main characters are able to stand their ground or not be swept away by winds when trucks, trailers, and 18 wheelers are easily picked up like toys by the tornadoes.

Not dropping that third laser thing to get the storm data in Kate's first try was egregious. Not to mention she drove away and parked to get away from it, but they were only like 100 yards away and well within the defined range of those radars. Hell, Tyler even made fun of them and was like "What are ya'll doing over here, the storm is over there" and then drives to chase it....and stops like 50 yards away and drills himself into the ground as the tornado passes directly over him. They were acting like she drove away to another county or something.

I didn't care but it did feel a little strange that Tyler and Kate never kiss at the end of the movie. They sort of played them up as a budding romance, but then there was no payoff. In a weird way I guess I respect that.

I think my favorite was that they kept trying to "make the choice" of chasing a tornado or "going into town and helping people".....which consisted of them driving into town and yelling at people to take shelter. These people live in the midwest. They don't need "help" telling them to seek shelter from fricking tornadoes.

It was also funny with the lack of shelters or basements around there. You'd think literally every single building would have one, but they have to hole up in a movie theater (that still had power)?

The "throwing diaper beads into a storm" angle was kinda funny, but at least it made sense within the framework of the movie. So I bought into that just fine, despite how ridiculous it sounded.

All in all though, I enjoyed it. It was mindless entertainment which is all I ask for in a movie called "Twisters." Definitely recommend seeing it in theaters too. The storm sequences are pretty well done and the theater audio does them justice.

They used the same recipe and paid some homage to specific scenes and lines from the first one.

It will remind you a lot of the first one. The cars all lined up racing down dirt roads and stuff.

Plus the soundtrack was good too.

I'm just grateful it wasn't a carbon copy of the original, which was precisely what I was expecting going into it. The "twist" was not following the same formula from the original twister.

I really like the original but for some reason I just have no real interest in this movie.

You do you man but I think you would be pleased. The original is sacred to me so I expected to hate it. It respects the original while presenting a new and different story line.

Eh... you should see it. It's a really fun movie with a few throwback to the original... silly land-buying-after-tornado-plot... but other than that... it's pretty fun.

Maybe. It could potentially work as the undercarriage got real low to the ground and not much area to lift the truck. I’m sure the augers might need to go down a little further or they did but we never saw it.

My favorites in “wind” catastrophe movies is when a large bus or something is being tossed around a person but the person isn’t moving.
