And as for some not mentioned yet:

Avatar:The Last Airbender
Bojack Horseman

These two animated shows that start off ok, and then once they got the foundation laid, they just shot to the moon from there, and the shows kept on getting better and better.

Too bad Game of Thrones first season was its best season.

I 100% disagree. I would rank the Game of Thrones seasons as follows:

1. Season Four
2. Season Two
3. Season Three
4. Season One
5. Season Six
6. Season Five
7. Season Seven
8. Season Eight

That’s my order at least. The Top 5 can be debated in which order they’re in, and given the day I may switch up a season or 2, but given the disaster the final two seasons of GoT was (as well as season 5 with a slight reprieve of 6), it is one of the last series in this conversation.

NCIS first couple of seasons were terrible. I did not watch the first run but later in reruns, characters weren't developed yet.

Parks and Rec first season didn't know what it wanted to be yet
Agreed. I was coming here to say Parks and Rec. Amy Poehler’s character was pretty cringey sometimes during the early episodes. When Rob Lowe and Adam Scott show up at the end of season 2 is when it really starts taking off.

Through seasons 1-5 definitely, then dips for 3 seasons

Swings back up from seasons 9-13

Dips again in seasons 14-15 (mainly because these seasons lose the overall vision of the show and erase 1-5 imo)

Pretty much every ST series other than the original series (which started strong and maintained).

Was coming in this thread to post almost this exact sentence.

30 Rock. My wife wanted to start a new series that we watch every so often, when we finished frasier. The first 2 seasons of 30 rock are AWFUL. Lemon is a bitter angry woman, so much so that it makes you hate her.

i thought shitts creek was stupid as hell the first season but watched it b/c the wife liked it.

over the course of several seasons you realize there's actually a very great story unfolding.

i'm re-watching Sopranos and season 1 is kind of weak. it's more of a black comedy than a drama and the production is pretty shite

I liked season 1 because it introduced you to the family structure a bit. The season where Tony's in the coma is very boring. Same with any scene with Olivia in it.

I'm glad we started Fringe when it first started airing. Great show that got better each season. The last season or so got a little weird, even for a SciFi show, but somewhere in S2 it really took off for us.

Breaking Bad I started streaming when S5 was about to start. I blew through S1 fairly quickly, and was wondering what all the fuss was about. But it took off from there and got better each season.

I may get some hate for this, but The Walking Dead was the same way, until it went off the rails. S1 was setting the stage, S2-S4 were good. But then it got tired and predictable.

I would say Season 4 was better than Season 1. The Purple Wedding, Tyrion's trial, Sansa at the Eyrie, The Red Viper vs. The Mountain, Daenarys conquering Mereen, Stannis arriving at Castle Black. All great story arcs.

It’s my second favorite season. I certainly see the argument for it.
