Louie had some touching scenes that came out of nowhere. His goodbye to Latka as he was leaving for war...

My favorite was when Elaine had a horrifying hair styling experience, and everyone feared that Louie would destroy her with his usual cruel taunts. But Louie took one look at her and angrily demanded, “Who did this.” He then related how much it meant for him to come to work each day and to see Elaine’s beauty.

One of my favorites was when Elaine needed a date for a fancy social and ended up taking Rev Jim but worried as hell he would embarrass her. He started playing the piano and she was about to flip out until he broke out some classical playing and impressed everyone.

Never liked that show for some reason. Maybe it was the maudlin theme music right at the outset.

That is still hilarious. For about 3 seconds we see what is to come.

Driver's license test

Jim before the drugs (with a very young Tom Hanks prior to the relevant scene)

Jim selling a vacuum cleaner door to door. Destroys the woman's carpet. Opens his case and it's encyclopedias.

The scene where Jim analyzes the "little surprise" in Latka's cookies is an all-time classic.

Bad acting? On "Taxi"?! Dude, the show's cast reads like a who's who of comedy greats. I've gotta disagree.

And Judd Hirsch was supposed to be the big name "talent" on the show because of his Broadway success.

Hirsh is the straw that stirs the drink. Just like Sam Malone or Barney Miller, they weren’t overly funny but a lot of the funny interactions and storytelling plays off of them.

That's right! You've gotta have the classic "straight-man" type for all these nutjobs to orbit around. Taxi executed this beautifully.

...And we haven't even discussed the epic nature of the theme song.

Not close to Sam Malone but Barney Miller isn't a bad analogy but I think the show could have succeeded without him but not Devito

After seeing this, the Christopher Lloyd Psych/Clue Episode just took on another meaning. He wasn’t doing a parody of his role in Clue but Taxi.

Also the “slow down” bit is one of the funniest bits in sitcom history. The little details like Jim looking down to make sure he reads the question right is really top notch. Each time he does it with the rest of the cast’s reaction just keeps getting funnier.

Meh I guess you could probably argue Sam was one of the crazies too. Linden and Hirsh were immensely talented in being the “straight” man. It takes a talent to keep the crazies from going off the rails and the story not being coherent.
