Tv show “Taxi”

If you saw my other thread from a couple days ago, WandaVision got me watching old sitcoms.
I started watching “Taxi” tonight. I just finished the first two episodes, and I got to say, this show is not as funny as I remember as a kid.
I started watching “Cheers” last week, and it’s still great as it was 35 years ago.
“Taxi” has some really bad acting, with Tony Dana and Jeff Conaway. Andy Koffman’s character is just stupid. Danny Davito was the only good thing on the show.

I forgot about him. He’s not in the first season.

It definitely got funnier as it progressed. Stay with it. It’s freaking hilarious.

With the current fraudulent president in office, Delaweenians makes all kinds of sense.

You’re no Reverend Jim.

Well, Jim Ignatowski wasn’t a charter character. That was a big part of the draw.
Very smart humor, but it relied heavily on the straight characters rolling eyes and harrumphing to the comedians.

Speaking of non-original cast, funny characters on 70s-80s era old sitcoms.....
Sgt. Arthur P. Dietrich may have been one of the most underrated FUNNY characters in sitcom history.

Cheers had a great throw away line where Coach answers the phone and says, “Sunshine Cab Company? Nah, I think they went out of business.”

One of the best Cheers openings ever was when this old timer walks into Cheers and tells Woody about how Cheers used to be his favorite old hangout. But, he hadn't been back in many, many years. He then starts looking around and pointing out all the things that had changed in the bar. Towards the end of his nostalgic walk down memory lane, he looks at the end of the bar and says, "Oh, hey Norm, how ya doing!"

Jesus Christ...look up Jim taking his driver’s test. Taxi was brilliant and Kaufmann was way ahead of his time. A true comic genius.

I loved the episode where Jim burns down Louie's house. Jim's dad offers to reimburse Louie and his reaction when he finds out he could've asked for a lot more money was hilarious.

That episode was funny as hell. Another one with him as the main character was him telling how his life changed due to drug use. He was dressed up like a Yale student, spoke eloquently and rather snobbish and very anti-drug.
He related how he was a yuppie type, strongly opposed to drugs and his girlfriend talked him into taking a bite off a weed laced brownie or cookie. After just one bite, he immediately changes to the Reverend Jim character he portrays on the show.

And his roommate was a young Tom Hanks.
