I like the pace so far, but we still have to wrap up who they actually arrested/killed back in 95 (
Reggie Ledoux and its pretty obvious that they kill him somehow in the "gunfight" or whatever happens when they go into his property.

I want to say both mm and woody make mention of the kids in the woods. And "the hero shot" which I'm assuming is a reference to them rescuing the kids?
Maybe they're being held captive by the freaky church to brainwash into some little army.
When Eli says, "The world is a veil and the face you wear is not your own." To me, that seemed very reminiscent of The King in Yellow.

Yeah pretty sure Marty wants to get busted. Based on the admission that he's "fricked up". He probably just wants relief at this point (kinda similar to how MM described people before they die - "just letting go")
plus one

Great show so far, but I saw a comment earlier about this show eclipsing the Wire and people calling this the best show of the year and whatnot. How about we wait longer than three episodes before we start slinging around bullshite like that..?
At least no one has gone as far as saying it is better than Breaking Bad.

I'm just wondering if its connected to the killings, and if so, in what way.
I think there is some sort of child molestation angle to the whole thing.

Well BB isn't as good as The Wire anyway.
Also, to expound more on Rust/Maggie...I think she will throw herself at him at some point, but he will decline.
ETA: And I'm sure Marty will assume that Rust is fricking his wife anyway.
Also, I am really hoping we get some insight into Rustin's time undercover, though I don't think we will, as there's just not enough time.

Yeah Rust won't do it, but she is looking for an escape.

Congrats, you finally posted something that makes sense and did not result from simply throwing shite at a wall to see what sticks.

I just thought of something creepy. remember in the pilot when the cops ask Marty what type of dude he was and he says "oh I was just a regular type dude with a big a$$ D"
Then we see his daughter drawing pictures of the same??

I'm wondering if this will be Marty's first time shooting someone (in reference to the dinner table discussion from Ep 1).

It's like Christianity and Occult are two sides of the same coin for these people

Agreed. Also, when they interviewed the woman about her dead daughter (the one who had migraines due to working in a laundry mat), did any one else catch when she randomly spewed something along the lines of "what father wouldn't bathe their daughter?"
Another thing, does anyone else think that the "spaghetti face man" is the hallucinated image of someone wearing a gas mask while dosing victims with LSD/Meth?

Reggie is killed in this "shoot out" so they pin the murdgers on him btu Rust knows from being undercover with him that Reggy wasn't the main person in the killing.
I think that's almost guaranteed to be what happens.
Rust knows it wasn't Reginald, but pressure from the Governor to close the case forces them to take the easy way out and pin the killing on someone they won't have to take to trial.
I agree with others that MM's dialog can be a bit annoying, but it's a big part of his character / themes. It also helps that WH acknowledges how annoying it is, which makes the True Detective world more realistic.

I agree. Most of the bible quotes that they have stenciled have very ominous meanings. Like in the church, one was about cleansing, the other destruction. I didn't catch all in the tent, but I've only gotten to watch the episode once, so far

Did the preacher say that the kids painted the mural in the burned down church? If so, that is weird for children to be involved with something that grotesque.

Maybe they were some of the children from the woods!!!

What grotesque mural?
They said the kids painted the walls (I assumed the preacher meant the bible quotes) and that someone came back after the church burned to paint the woman with the horns.

I thought they worded the question poorly. As they asked the question the preacher couldn't have been certain what they were talking about. They should have been more specific.

The "green eared spaghetti monster" was reported by a little girl who was chased through the woods. I don't think she had been missing. So if she was dosed with LSD it would have been in a short period if time.
I think just seeing a man in that gas mask coupled with a child's imagination could get a description like that.
