I think the tent revivals might act as a trap for lost souls laid out by Tuttle or people connected with him. The women show up and are scouted by the Preacher. Relationships are built and the shiny-faced guy leads the girls back to the drug compound where they are slowly dosed with drugs. Cohle suggested the slow dosing of the girls in an earlier episode.

Very interesting theory.

I like that.

Yeah, but he specifically asked about the mural. I don't think many people would equate stenciled words to a mural.

would make sense REggie coiuld be the tall man whose jaw was shiny…I mean the gas mask covers the top of the face but the cheeks and chin are exposed…to all those chemicals…while cooking meth

just finished the entire 3rd ep. man, maybe I am too fixated on the theory of Rust being a split personality from Marty, but lots and lots of signs are there if you have that in your mind. damn. That ending diatribe about your pain, love, hurt, memories, etc.. all being a part of a dream you had in a locked room...a dream of being "a person"...you read it as his pessimism and dreary outlook could be that he he knows he isn't real

I really hope you not only are wrong, but that you drop this theory with the quickness...there are way too many things in the episodes that prove they are different people. In fact, I think you are completely reaching with this theory and are trying to make connections to it where there aren't any at all.

On top of all of that, that would be a horribly shitty way to end what is a great show so far. I'd sincerely hope that they wouldn't cop out to some big twist that they were the same person after all...that would completely ruin the show for me (and most I'd imagine).

I think it was a coincidence that time but it seemed like they are developing some type of relationship. Marty definitely thought it was strange, which I agree from his standpoint. Marty was freaked out about him being there but also started to feel bad due to his own infidelities. IMO, they are setting up for something to happen between Marty's wife and Rust, especially with their relationship being in it's current rut. Just my thoughts

Definitely. Marty is insecure because of what he's doing on the side but Maggie is already starting to figure it out. Wouldn't surprise me if at one point he thinks Rust and Maggie are having an affair but in actuality are just friendly.

I also think that Marty's 2 daughters and titsgirl are going to be involved somehow in the murders/kidnapping.

What grotesque mural? They said the kids painted the walls (I assumed the preacher meant the bible quotes) and that someone came back after the church burned to paint the woman with the horns.

Ok. I will have to rewatch that scene.

ETA: I considered it grotesque because it was a naked woman wearing antlers with her hands tied.

I like the pace so far, but we still have to wrap up who they actually arrested/killed back in 95 (
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reggie Ledoux and its pretty obvious that they kill him somehow in the "gunfight" or whatever happens when they go into his property.

I know that is the name of the person that is charged with the killings, but I mean wrap up that plot. We don't know yet if the tighty whiteys dude is Reggie LeDoux or not. And we don't know how they catch, arrest, kill, etc. him yet either.

My point was that there are only 5 episodes left. You assume the last one is mainly wrapped up stuff and closing some of the major plots (and maybe a twist or two). So that basically leaves four episodes left to solve this case, attend to other issues/plots, and deal with the 2012 case. Not to mention there seems to be other major-ish players that have gotten little-to-no screen time at all (like the Gov or his cousin, for example), and you have to assume that we will dive into their subplots at some point.

That's an awful lot of stuff to cram into 5 episodes, especially when we haven't been fully introduced to some of them yet.

Did the preacher say that the kids painted the mural in the burned down church? If so, that is weird for children to be involved with something that grotesque.

They are talking about two different paintings...they'd have to be IMO.

Also, I liked Putty's theory on the prevalence of stars. It's not something I've noticed, but will definitely start paying attention to it:
quote:

2. The star theme is apparent, I think that's the main reason behind the choice of lone star beer, which has been hotly debated. Several scenes have had the American Flag (stars and stripes) in the background, and the stripper in the intro and apparently in the next episode is wearing an American Flag bathing suit. The mural at the church (the one painted by the kids) had stars painted in the sky. Note also that when Rust makes the tin man from the beer can, Lone Star is written across his chest. Don't think the stars (other than the black stars of Carcosa obviously) really mean anything in terms of whodunnit. Just a recurring symbolism in the story itself.

dude, you just repeated what has been stated by 40 other people in this thread including me…I"m not saying that is what I believe it happening and I have said repeatedly that I hope that isn't true but ever since I heard the theory a couple of weeks ago I just can't help but seeing that angle.

The preview for E4 shows him and Lisa getting into an argument in what looks to be a court house.

Also that methy looking woman had stars tattooed on her neck.

My bad..I was catching up with the thread.

And just because you heard some inane, stupid theory doesn't mean you have to keep trying to plug into the episodes trying to justify it.

I"m not saying that is what I believe it happening

You've called it not only a "viable theory" but also said that you're "fixated" on it, and continue to give examples of how it could be true.

You don't have to regurgitate shite theories you read on other sites on here, man.

Salmon,

I think the industrial shots tie in with MM's view that "Human consciousness is a tragic misstep." The industrial / rural contrast supports MM's views that humans are unnatural.

He's been doing this before he even saw a single episode, don't expect it to stop.

Nah dude, I think the BB references have to do with the final scene in E3.

All the more reason that he shouldn't try to lambast me for responding to his ridiculous "theory."

And I'll be pissed if he regurgitates shite on this board that turns out to be spoilers, just because he read it on some other site.

Develop your own, original idea for frick's sake.
