I can't remember which episode it was in but I liked the reference to the LSU coach "skip"
Also glad to see my hometown, Opelousas, get a mention.
I wish my step dad had HBO because he was a detective for 30 years in St. Landry parish. Would like to get his opinion of the show.

I'm sure he would find the show completely 100% realistic.

Is it just me or does the body in the pic towards the end of the episode look like Daddario?

I just realized just how similar the preacher's sermon is to Rust Cohle's ramblings at the end of the episode.
Nothing we are currently experiencing is real, we are prisoners of our own consciousness.
Interesting.
Yeah I was saying that from an earlier post. Here's what jumps out to me (besides the veil and all that):
quote:
So how then can I know sorrow? How then can I know despair? Does the rain know sorrow? Does the grass and the mountains, the beautiful mountains, know despair? Such is not his province, and so not be our purpose. Be in him, of him, and then know peace. That is his gift to us. Our birthright. In the end we will find ourselves at the beginning, and will at last know ourselves, and our true faces will weep in his light. And those tears, those tears will feel like a warm rain. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen.
This is about the annihilation of the self and the return to God, where there is no separation--no individual personality, cut off from Abraham's bosom as it were. Now put this into Rust's words, and what's it about? The longing for death--the return to selfless nature. "Our birthright," and what in Rust's view makes human life such a perverse mistake. This is in many ways the pessimistic undercurrent of Christianity as well. (Incidentally it's also why comparisons between Rust and Nietzsche are off-base).

Another excellent episode.
All the substantive stuff has been covered pretty good here.
One thing I'm surprised is that no one mentioned Rust's remark about the canals cut through the swamp and how "this whole place will be underwater in 30 years" or something to that effect. I thought it was odd they put that in there. Just a throw away line? Bit of semi-political commentary? Something to make Rust look even more observant?
