I think Eli/Shea Whigham's character may end up being pretty relavent...

My sisters been gone from LC for 20 years and knows more about it than me. Just because he moved is not enough to discount that theory.

This show's writing is top notch. It sort of reminds me of a Terrence Malick film...only with good dialogue and three-dimensional characters.

They're throwing a lot of red herrings out for sure. There's only so many places for them to go with the story with only 5 hours left.

Im trying to figure out what the phone call to rust from maggie was about.
they mentioned steve. Steve was also mentioned on the double date as the drunk that threw up in the other girl's lap, who was "going through some things".
hes another cop but what was maggie trying to find out..i guess what exactly steve's deal was?

Hey now Days of Heaven and Badlands were good! But yeah this is right on.

Maggie was asking if Marty really was at work or not.

Yeah, I've wondered if I'm in the minority when I say that I don't "get" Malick films and I don't like them at all. They're aesthetically nice but severely lacking on dialogue and character development.

marty told maggie that he was called out to assist steve on a call. that was his excuse not to go home
she wanted rust to confirm that this was bullshite to bust marty, but he wouldn't do it

and three-dimensional characters.
arguable
just b/c they're not typical doesn't mean they're 3-D...hell rust is anything but rounded
he's a deity hovering above the mere mortals he interacts with...and a flat one at that

Ahh didnt catch that steve was in a lie marty made to maggie. Makes sense. Thanks

What did the guy say when woody asked of she blew him?
I also agree about MM's dialogue being too contrived. But there is part of me that just says they want you to think he is that intelligent. So I'll go with that.
Sucks they are skipping a week

The dialogue would bother me if every character spoke like MM.
But instead, we have MM using huge words and long sentences to make himself sound smart and stuff, while Marty uses more Southern colloquialisms and short sentences as counterpoints.
Very different ways of speaking to complement their very different ways of thinking about things.

It doesn't really bother me.
Really, it can be explained quite simply. He is a person that has obviously studied religion & such, and has also reflected deeply within his own self. So he could just be reciting beliefs & theories that are already in his head from the past. He's speaking in the moment, but his ideas are way past the developmental stage.

"Just a little bit" ....or something in line with that.

Being that he has been a deep undercover narc for years he has probably seen shite that would give normal people nightmares and has had plenty of time to develop his complex views of the world and humanity. I think his mannerisms suit his backstory (so far) perfectly.

Rust character is fricking unbelievable. There is a real genius in the writhing and dialogue going on about human nature vs religion.

Oh man what a great ending to this episode. Can't wait for the next one.
The music that plays out this episode is so fricking good.
