Odd that they mention Fayetteville by name and not West Fork though.

I think it will wind up being out of courtesy to the city of West Fork. It seems like West Finger is going to be abandoned and haunted and a ghost town by the end of this show.

Yes. But "at the playground".

West Fork didn't want to be associated with the storyline of dead kids, cults, etc.

They also featured a couple of Fayetteville restaurants, Hugo's and Herman's, that we ate at while we were there.

Impressive you were able to recognize those. I guess the giant aquarium and archway was giveaway for Herman's. But Hugo's wasn't as obvious I didn't think. Good catches.

I'm all in, Mahershala is doing a great job.

But I don't think anyone can ever top Rust Cole's character or McConaughey portrayal. Probably my all time favorite character.

The skylight ceiling/glass floor above was the giveaway for me on the east side of the restuarant that faces block street.

Totally get that, just found it odd they were still able to use Fayetteville and Washington County with no objection.

West Fork is backwards AF compared to Fayetteville which is just a few miles away so not entirely surprised.

Great show so far and nostalgic being from the area.

Always going to be tough but Ali has the chance to be just as dynamic with the memory loss, veteran status etc.

Sounds like he was a complete badass in nam', if there are flashbacks or scenes that bring out the badass Rust part of him, it could be a close one.

Very pleasantly surprised with Dorff as well. He's a solid compliment to Ali.

Yes! Every season has them doing some dirty cop shite to get stuff done, which always tend to be the best scenes and parts. Ali and Dorf gonna get 'Nam dirty wet work going and I'm gonna lose it.

Well I saw someone else mention they shot there before I watched the episode, so I was on the lookout for it. I recognized Hugo's before Hermans actually

I love Dorff's character but i couldn't stop staring at the awful wig or whatever it is he's wearing. Looks so unnatural.

Gonna rewatch both tonight. This is already light years better than season 2.

I have a few questions, but will wait until I've rewatched in case I just missed anything.

After watching first two episodes, I'd say this season has promise.

Although HBO Must be using the same sound crew from Sharp Objects. We had a lot of "what did he say"?

I'm rewatching now. Some questions/notes:

The opening lines confirm this will all have a lot to do with memory or lack thereof. He's told he's having memory problems. Then he listens to his own recording telling himself he has memory problems.

From his recording: "But remember why you're talking to them (the people from the tv). Figure out how much they know." So apparently it's still not solved in 2015 and he's still trying to figure it out?

"You don't need no surprises this late in the game." Huh?

The kids lied when they did they'd see the new puppy at the playground. Ronnie told his dad Will didn't say today when talking about seeing the puppy. Then as someone said before, the dad was wrong (or lied) about the kids saying they were going to a friend's house.

We see the bikes up at the tower with the older kids. But that's up on a hill and the bikes was found down in a creek. So just an inconsistency in his memory? How did he build that memory in the first place?

The documentary blonde could get it.

When he's talking about his wife and breaking down a bit, we see Henry's reaction. And it's weird, like Henry thinks he's lying.

We go back and forth between 1990 memories and 2015 memories. Can't find any consistent themes for each. Maybe amelia is only shown from the 2015 memories?

One of the pictures in Julie's room looked like a wedding scene. One of those creepy dolls was holding flowers like a bride.

Loving it so far.

Only issue for me has been that 1990 buzz cut married Wayne seems younger than 1980 just from ‘Nam single Wayne. It’s odd

Agreed. I loved Season 1, didn't care for 2 and have liked this one so far.

I like that Wayne hunts, is a Republican, and drinks simple beer.

I wish he was my black friend.

A close buddy of mine I grew up with is all 3 of these things, coming from a small town in MS. With the exception of having a BS in computer science, he's more authentic southern than most of the people around here. Doesn't even care for any snooty beer, just sucks down them beasts(what I call Milwaukee's Best Light)

I always thought it was a nice touch from season 1 when Rust was hitting those Lonestars. First time I visited Texas was to visit an old roommmate who grew up in Austin and he introduced me to them.

Anyways, watched the first two episodes again and was able to really take in more the second time around, then it made me just go back and do a rewatch of season 1, which I can already tell both blend together nicely.

EDIT: Came across this gem earlier, didn't realize it was ever pretty popular back in the day

I think Dorff's is actually a really good Arkansas accent. Reminds me of Houston Nutt, a little Johnny Cash in there, too.

The accents on this show are what dreams are made of compared to the normal fake Arkansas/southern accents.

Disagree man. That late 70s/early 80s hair was god awful.

I think its very legit for that period of time.
