The wife is going to come into play. The way the camera kept showing her photo on the book. The sons face as the interviewer mentions her name. She’s a bit of an enigma.

And how she didn’t pay much attention to the high school kid grabbing his friend by the collar at school, she just turned away

This 100% blows season 2 out of the water. I’m hooked already.

There are multiple mysteries here.

What happened to Hays daughter? Is she dead? They are lying to him when he asks about her.

Is Amelia involved in some way? Hays adult son knows shite we all need to know.

Is Julie Purcell the biological daughter of Tom?

Why were the teenagers playing with the dead kid's bike? Why were they arguing at the schoolyard?

What's the fricking deal with the dolls and Halloween?

What happened to Trash Man? Something bad happened to him, and we don't know yet.

I'm missing more. This is fantastic writing and acting.

Then she'd be the hottest 42 year old woman I've ever seen in my life.

I think his daughter is dead also. He knows this, but it’s one of the things that he can’t remember.

I don’t think Julie is Tom’s daughter either. Something is fishy within the house. The peephole into her room and the “uncle”

I don’t think the teenagers had anything to do with the death, but they know more than what they’ve let on for sure.

Fantastic first two episodes.

It looks like not only the Purcell house is burned to the ground, but the entire neighborhood surrounding it appears to be deserted in 2015. People fled the evil shite that went down there.

This has some similarities of the West Memphis 3 who were charged with killing and sodomizing 3 young boys back in the late 80’s.

I noticed this as well. I wonder if it’s loosely based on that?

Maybe spoilers below

Tons of similarities.. two kids missing, three outcasts, small town in Arkansas, satanic aspect

I could see that being the case. I just thought he was struggling with his father's dementia that was being exacerbated by him asking the same questions repeatedly.

I thought Hays mentioned to the TV crew interviewer something about his wife and daughter that implied they were both deceased. I think it was when we first learned his wife was dead. Don't remember exactly though...

It won’t, but they mentioned the pedo ring by name from Louisiana.

The interviewer mentioned the Franklin scandal by name:

Franklin scandal

I guess Nebraska can be considered a "surrounding area", too. Omaha is 6 hrs drive north of NWA.

I was thinking the same thing during episode two.

Especially the black sabbath t-shirts. The west memphis 3 were basically convicted off of their Metallica t shirts.

My wife thinks the wife is involved. Good guess but I actually think that would be a little too obvious at this point.

c Pizzolatto really learned a lesson and and is bringing back the dark, creepy, “something is fricked up here” vibe of season 1.

They're also keeping it simple. Season 2 had way too many story lines.

Not sure if already mentioned but one of the characters mentioned "the spiral murders" - didn't spirals play some sort of role in Season 1? Though I think those incidents in Season 1 took place after the 1980.

I hope the wife is not involved. What a hack job of writing that would be.

I wonder why a Louisiana writer would let them change choupique to shoe pick?
Pretty sure there is a little fish market that sells them as well as gar and coon meat not far from his grandpas old shoe store in Houma.
