Yeah, you would have thought he was smart enough to shove them up there. Then they could have had the damned suit.
As to the unsophisticated gang - I think if they had presented it right that could have been fine. It could have been a young ambitious, intelligent low level gangster that Frank kind of saw some of himself in. But they didn't explore that angle at all.

I can get over many of the misgivings this show has this season, what I cannot tolerate is the coronation of season 1 despite it face planting in the end.

Well I thought this episode was the most entertaining for the season, but I didn't like how the story concluded. Really enjoyed the whole heist scene especially before they got into their separate cars they kinda looked at each other like they couldn't believe they might actually get out alive.
1. So basically Casper liked to watch his illegitimate daughter with other men? Still not satisfied with how the birdman, and Caspere's death turned out, but it was decent.
2. Frank was too caught up in his old gangster ways to ever escape. Your past always comes back to haunt you type of irony.
3. Velcaro couldn't stay away from his kid's life even if it was for the best so that ended up killing him.
4. Woodrough was in the closet and got blasted from behind after coming out the back door.
5. Dezziredes survives to tell their story to some reporter and disappear under the moonlit stars with Frank's widow.
