Just as weird as he gets when he targets all of his marks. That chick he followed in the American bikini, pretty sure he was waiting outside her strip club multiple nights before he followed her to that rave. And drinking. He was wearing different clothing between the scenes.

I was under the impression that he was acting strange because there was the bar right there, fox and hound, and he was supposed to be sober at the time.

That would make entirely too much sense.

I just feel like very little in this show is just coincidental. He was also acting wierd in the parking lot prior to going in the store.
He was emasculated because he was on tampon duty.

so Marty still probably has hard feelings toward Rust.

Not sure if addressed, but Marty says in Ep. 1 that he holds no grudges towards Cohle and thinks "thats the shite that leads to cancer" when discussing it.

Not going to bother reading the thread if it's full of a bunch of people pissing and moaning because they won't be shocked enough if there aren't crazy twists at the end.

Amen.

The episode did a great job of showing the split, and ended perfectly.

You know taking a big bag of tampons into a bar may be a good way to get laid. It says I am a good guy and by the way my woman is busy right now, so I am available for bang if you want.

So Marty's master plan was to tail this chick for 7 years. Welp she is old enough now. Might as well go knock it out. Oh wait I need my trusty bag of tampons that 60% of the time works 100% of the time for reeling them in. Brilliant.

IT WAS A COINCIDENCE.

Carrying a huge bag of tampons and being called a human tampon. Was it too much for one hour, or really driving the point home?

The real question is how dumb does Marty have to be to think a "former" hillbilly trailer park hooker has never had anal sex?

Because he knew what he did was wrong.

Agreed. Too impulsive and dumb. And he would never hurt a kid.

It's TV so they can do whatever they want but that would be a total cheat.

Slo is Will Hunting. True Detective is Minnie Driver. He's so worried that the show won't' be perfect that he isn't enjoying it.

That or Slo is just the master contrarian we all know he is.

the series isnt over yet, we dont know what the end game is

Am I the only one who thinks we may not get the neat, predictable ending many seem to be thinking we will? Does Rust's claim that there is no closure apply to season one in a sense?

The only thing I've heard about subsequent seasons is that the cast and story will be different. Who says this season won't end the story of Rust and Marty, then carry on in season two, with some element of the main plot intact, possibly the killer(s) not exposed, but from new character's perspectives? I wouldn't hate seeing this thing go the way of the Red Riding Trilogy. Again, maybe I'm all alone here...

It's possible. Two episodes isn't a whole lot of time.

Either it doesn't get completely resolved or there isn't a "neat" resolution and Rust & Marty go rogue and take justice into their own hands or something.

And they could always go dark and have Rust & Marty get killed and have the bad guys win.

Possibilities abound. I do agree that the odds of an ending where two hero cops escort a whole gaggle of handcuffed bad guys into waiting police cars are slim.
