Am I the only one who thinks we may not get the neat, predictable ending many seem to be thinking we will? Does Rust's claim that there is no closure apply to season one in a sense?
i'm leaning there now with how we got here and how long we have to finish (and that speech)

Really didn't think Cohle would go through with it, but at least old boy recognized the error of his way immediately.
He should have kicked her out as soon as you made the move on him.

Two episodes isn't a whole lot of time.
Plenty of movies tell an entire story in two hours. I think they'll be fine.

Jumping in the thread late, so...
Does anyone think it doesn't get resolved and we have a cliffhanger for next season?
I know they only did 8 episodes, but wonder what the plans are for another season.
And SFP, Rust was hammered drunk and Maggie started on him. I can see it (even if out of character) with the drunk angle. He obviously realizes it right after and boots her out.
I am not disappointed about leading to the obvious-type ending (if that happens). This was a series of the characters, not necessarily the case. The case is almost story fodder. Rust and Marty's lives during this period is the story.
I enjoyed reading the prediction threads, but in this case like most, we build it up and expectations rarely meet (see Lost).
What a fantastic series so far

Nope,
Rust dies in the end.

Yeah, everyone suspects that Marty's daughters have been exposed to a cult or sex abuse when they were younger. Many here would like to blame the FIL who was in one scene. But hey he was drinking Lone Star so who knows. Others have suggested that maybe Maggie is actually extremely sinister and may have a hand in it.
But no one wants to think that Marty would sexually abuse his little girls THAT SICK frick!
i think those people are dumb fricks as well if it makes you feel better

Rust interviews Joel Theriot again

eta - it was a Tuttle school. But he claims they are all independently ran.
quote:
and before he started doing the revival meeting thing, Joel used to work for Tuttle's group where part of his duties were custodial, and one night he accidentally knocked over an ancient volume of letters by the 12th century mystic Teleos de Lorca belonging to a senior minister, only to find images of naked children inside. He brought it to the attention of the higher ups in the church who handled the matter internally, with the matter never pursued any further.

Rust has info that one of Tuttle's ministries (rural religious schools) has a lot of pedo activity that was covered up. He is connecting that with the "report made in error" missing person entries. He seems to think Tuttle is the kingpin with the Carcosa/King in Yellow storyline.
I don't doubt the pedo angle with tuttle, or people in his organization, but I have my doubts about Tuttle and some full on connection with the King in Yellow cult activity. I agree with Rust's assessment that there is a deep and developed mythology that is followed by the cult killer. I think that a Santaria/Voodoo belief system is pretty far from Tuttle's evangelical roots and ministry, so I'm not sure the ritualistic murders are fully attributable to him...especially since Tuttle apparently died in 2010 and the recent murder was in 2012.

And there have been numerous times where people have said "There are big people involved" and "big and rich people sacrificing children"
So far Tuttle is the biggest, richest character we've seen

Did anyone else laugh their arse off when Cohle told the woman in the interrogation room that she should probably kill herself when she gets the chance?

Yes

That's his interrogation modus operandi. He empathizes with the killer, holds her hand, comforts her, gets her to sign a confession and then basically says: you stupid bitch, child murderer, just kill yourself.
