if we're talking about this and you're asking me how i'd write a character that wasn't an archetype of mygosiny, i'd have her leave her piece of shite husband and be independent

That's reality dude. They had been married for over a decade and they had 2 daughters. How many people do you know like that that have problems or infidelity and come back to each other. It's not some kind of grand archtype of mygosiny. It's reality.

ETA:
if you have a problem with the way humans interact with each other that's one thing, but to say that's not reality or is some kind of warped view or women or men is to be ignorant.

And then I'd criticize you for not knowing how to write for a woman in a marriage with a man that doesn't really know himself or what he wants. Or a woman in a marriage with kids that actually worked outside of the infedility. The anti-female criticism just seems like a really simplistic view of the character's actions.

No, I think they're going to wrap it up nicely. CoCo on the other hand was borderline offended last night. But that's just because she's so wrapped up in this show, she expects EVERY episode to be like #5.

more explaining why people are

i could give a shite at this point. as the story unfolds it's becoming more predictable/cliche/boring (whatever word you prefer to use based on your world view) so i'd fully expect a female to seek revenge via having sex with somebody

i never really gave that much of a shite about maggie the character ayway

fwiw, I NEED a gif when Tuttle asks Rust "what have you found on this?"

Rust reaction was priceless. Like "I got you motherfricker."

With that said it'd be a perfect "not sure if serious" gif.

The writers are using Maggie's infidelity as a weapon against Marty - her character is trying to break free of the "Stepford Wife" motif she's been fighting against since the beginning. Last night was her "Alamo" scene.

The fact that they used sex as as a final act of her defiance was pretty typical, considering how women have been portrayed the entire series.

It is symbolism of the overriding theme of the show - the antiquated illusion of "owning women" that men like Marty cling to.

That theme plays heavily into the main storyline, because I assume that members of this secret society feel the same way about women and their perceived power over them.

So while I agree women appear weak in the show all the time, I think there is some redemption to be had in the end. We'll see.

I'll go with straightforward, since the other choices seem to have some inherent negativity in their uses.

it's tough having this discussion with people from an area of conservative social values, though

What in the wide world of phuck are you all talking about??? I believe this shows portrayal of certain women has been spot on and there is no adgenda. Prostitutes and low income women generally act just as they have been shown to act in this series. These are not women who's daddy's belonged to New Orleans CC. The doctor that Rust dated was not portrayed as weak. I think some of you are really reaching to complain about the way women are portrayed on this show.

The first woman Marty fricked over informed his wife he was a cheater. And he cried then went back to her.

Then he quit alcohol and women. Only to relapse weakly and fall for a prostitute.

His children hate him, his wife crushed him, his. Partner left him and fricked his wife.

The men in the show arent exactly strong.
