Lange specifically mentions a "tattoo". Does someone have a screenshot of Ledoux's tattoo/brand? Thanks

I'm pretty sure Lange says brand, and there's a brand on Ledoux's back.

Ledoux most certainly had a spiral brand on his back. Anyone chasing down a line of reasoning based on Ledoux not having a spiral mark is going the wrong direction.

He sat in a room and vetted the plan, then he helped implement it. He committed acts in furtherance of the crime, as did his accomplices. He doesn't have to actually put on a uniform. Conspiracy brobocop.

I agree. I think some of the cops we've met are involved but don't think any of the current characters who the show has invested much background in is the Yellow King.

I'm not saying he didn't do lots of illegal things that episode since he wasn't officially undercover, I just don't think impersonating an officer was one of them.
Also I don't think Marty is really protecting Rusty by not saying anything at this point, since that would be admitting he was an accomplice. Also Rusty keeping the fact that Marty executed Ledoux while handcuffed is a much bigger secret

I really hope your trolling. Otherwise I don't see how you could enjoy this show while coming up with the most idiotic speculation since Ryno's Marty/Rust are the same person idea.

That the timeline has been cut and mixed up is not speculation on my part. In E1, you'll notice the attire that Marty and Rust wear to the crime scene.

The second day is the day they go to the coroner's office and have the case debriefing/
press conference. You can see what they are wearing that day by this pic of the scene in Charlie Lange's first interview. They also interview Dora Lange's mom on Day 2 (but that scene is not until near the beginning of E2). They probably interview Dora's mom before Charlie, since they are in effect notifying the next of kin with this interview.

But before you get the press conference scene and the scene interviewing Charlie Lange, you get the scenes where Rust and Marty canvass the area, interviewing the chick with glasses, the cajun man, Pastor Clarke Peters and Sheriff Tate. And there they are back in their Day 1 attire (Jan. 3, 1995).

After they interview Charlie Lange, they interview Carla - remember that is was Charlie who gave Carla's name and phone number to Marty and Rust (but the audience does not see this interview until E2). This interview appears to happen on a day that nothing else was done, at least from the audience's perspective (I can't match their attire to any other day).

The next day from what best I can tell is the day that Speece and Rev. Tuttle roll into the office talking about the task force.

This is also they same day that they interview Danny Fontenot and find the devil trap. This is the last part of E1.

E2 begins with them looking at the devil trap on their desk.

I think the scene after this is the interview of Dora Lange's mom, which actually happens on Day 2.

You can see just from this short illustration how fricked up the timeline is from the audience's perspective. You can see this is not just speculation on my part.

I think all of the talk about how "time is flat" from the last episode adds further support to idea that the writer is screwing with the timeline.

The dude has committed massive crimes but he's in deep with the police forces of both states. He's done things for them that've been certain violations of the law / illegal conspiracies on the part of law enforcement even if they were for the purpose of fighting crime. Neither state or any of the jurisdictions within them wants anything Rust has done for them to see the light of day. I honestly believe this latest stuff he has done by going rougue would be swept under the rug. You guys have to understand how this sort of thing works. There are fringe operators out there like Rust who are allowed by the police on multiple levels to break the law with impunity because they are on the cop/FBI side of that fringe world. It's NOT required that everything such an operator does be implicitly for the furtherance of law enforcement goals, either - these contractors are pretty often carrying on a criminal enterprise while working for the police and there's an understanding that the cops will just look the other way. Look at who Rust broke the law against here. He killed/roughed-up bikers and ghetto-dwellers. The law enforcement establishment won't/doesn't care about them. If he hurt some nice suburban family it would be a differen't story, but bikers and hood-rats? Pssshh.

it's still felony murder on top of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon (whatever the TX equivalent is)

there is a big difference in killing a guy who just injected meth in a baby (which still almost got him in deep shite, and irl would have) and participating in a armed robbery against third parties. and you can tell this was already part of his cover when he told the biker he didn't do that

plus he lied to LSP about where he was at

plus he stole a metric frick ton of coke from LSP evidence

Did Rust break the fourth wall during the membrane speech?

Is he aware that he is a fictional character and the circle he was talking about is a DVD and we are the participants he was talking about that can analyze from afar?

Does he realize he is a character in a story that is set to relive this story over and over?

The writer of the show alludes to this in a couple of interviews.

I have only read half this thread. I don't know if it's been mentioned yet or not, but it is plausible Rust and Marty didn't actually have a fallout. They faked one to keep the yellow king group from focusing on both of them. Marty has been helping Rust the track down the killers the whole time.

From another thread (last night)

Aside from MM obviously. Anyone else seeing the Frailty parallels?

Both stories are conducted using the interview/flashback format. Both ultimately show stories involving "brothers" at odds who did unspeakable acts in the name of justice.

On one side of the table: MM, the mysterious character.

On the other side: a law enforcement officer conducting the interview.

I've been thinking about this and it's lead me to this conclusion.

In true defective the huge twist will be this: MM and WH are in this together. The falling out is staged and they are under DEEP cover working to take someone high level down.

And JUST LIKE frailty, in the end...the tables will be flipped and we will see MM and WH were REALLY after the "company men". THEY have been the aggressors. THEY are hunting them.

It's interesting to think about I guess.
