For the love of zeus, Marty is not the Yellow King.

When the cops are interviewing Maggie, she says "I knew Rust to be a good man." She uses the past tense, but this could just be that she hasn't seen him in 10 years.
I totally take this to be the case. We know he was alive within 6 days from Marty's interview.

Also, Marty tells Rust "I am the only one who ever took up for you." Rust replies "Without me there is no you." Is Rust implying that without the case, and his work on it, Marty would just be another no name cop, but because of the case and Rust's dogged pursuit of it, Marty got his name in the paper and got a promotion?
There is a quick shot of Marty with blood on his face. He is being grabbed/restrained by four guys (none of whom I recognize) and it appears that they are at the back of a red pickup truck. Doesn't Rust drive a red truck?
Yeah, this all screams of a fabricated fight to end their relationship. I don't see Cohle making such an egocentric comment or giving 2 shits about promotions and commendations. We do know that if they got into it for real, that Cohle would whip that arse though

Probably why Marty is bloody.

If Marty was the killer, why would he be protecting Rust during the interrogation?
well this isn't a good argument, b/c if marty doesn't protect rust, he goes to jail in TX for the rest of his life
Posted on 2/18/14 at 9:31 am to Tiger in NY
It has to be a fabricated fight, I can't see Rust having a legit throwdown in front of other cops unless it was to push forward his end game.

Nah. Texas don't care about hood rats and meth slingers. He would probably get a key to the city.

Yeah, and I can't see a real fight between them ending with Marty just having a broken nose.
I think they are best friends at this point and have been investigating this thing all along on their own. I think Marty knows that he needs Cohle to help find or solve the case with his daughter (which is where it seems the story is going).

Yep. I think bad shite happens to Marty's daughter and Marty and Rust know they can't get to the "true" responsible parties as legit cops. Rust goes to ground and Marty gets into a quasi law based business where he can still have access to some police resources and keep a pulse of how the case is being worked by the police.

No doubt... the drawings his daughter made and the questions as to how she came up with that are still to be answered IMO.

Wonder where his daughter has seen that symbol.
Branded on daddy's back perhaps?
I would say it ties in to the inspiration for the pictures she drew and that whomever that is (grandfather? other relative? family friend?) will be outed...

How does Marty never notice it on the wall?? Right under his nose??

I think it's a fabricated fight. However, if it isn't... Rust could be alluding to the fact that he covered up Marty's murder of Ledoux. If he hadn't Marty would have been arrested in 95.

SFP, make this your sig. quote. It will be easier than retyping it 20 times. You are right, though...off the top of my head:
Stealing Evidence / Tampering
Possession of a shite-ton of coke
Conspiracy
Impersonating an officer
Aggravated Burglary
Aggravated Assault (multiple counts)
Aggravated Battery (multiple counts)
First Degree (Felony) Murder (multiple counts)
Kidnapping
Transporting Kidnapping Victim across state lines
And Marty only came to a rolling stop at the corner when he picked them up.

Marty being the Yellow King is the dumbest theory on here. People need to just stop with that.
To be the head of a cult you need leadership qualities and the ability to be patient, calm, rational. You have to inspire confidence in people.
Marty is an impulsive child-man totally driven by emotion. Nothing about him is inspirational and he has no natural leadership ability.

I think we've met many of the characters involved in any potential cover-up, but the Yellow King is still at-large. We've heard multiple times that he is tall and has a scarred face, and thus far, no one meets that description.
There is exactly 0% chance that Marty is the killer, and less than 1% chance Marty is involved in any sort of cover-up. Period. That being said, I enjoy Decatur's ridiculous commitment to his terrible theory.

At first, I thought they got the wrong guy because he didn't have the spiral tattoo...I looked again last night and still didn't see it. Lange specifically mentions a "tattoo". Does someone have a screenshot of Ledoux's tattoo/brand? Thanks
