I can't keep up with this thread, but my observations:
1. Re Ginger. He is dead, and whoever said Cohle lied to Marty about him is wrong. Rust did not say he was alive and taped up in a ditch. Just that he was taped up in a ditch.
2. If Rust Cohle is an anagram for "horse cult". Rustin Cohle is an anagram for "in horse cult". I don't think that means a fricking thing.
3. Rust dumped Dr. Lady to protect her. Watching them on the couch, it seemed as thou he was very bored and that might be the cause of their split. However, I think now he was being contemplative (not bored) and he said in the interview (seemingly genuinely) that he almost married her. If this was after the prisoner offed himself (I forget timing) then I'm convinced he split it to protect her. Cue the "I have her cause" quote. He fell on the sword to protect her.
4. I think the kids crown in the tree was reminiscent of the devil catcher but also with the obvious crown symbolism. There is a shitload of symbolism in this show. Not every occasion of symbolism is necessarily a clue. However, I do believe she has been exposed to the cult shite since an early age. Her development is not by accident.
5. Rust is trolling the cops. Nothing in the storage container but old clothes IMO. If he's not trolling them, he may be trying to lead them to the truth since he knows it won't be trusted coming from him. Someone earlier posted about Rust sacrificing himself. I won't be surprised if he falls on the sword in such a way that it brings down the people really responsible.

Big reveals def aren't always cop-outs. Look at Usual Suspects. I think that movie is as soft as a 30 year-old pier in the middle and is TOTALLY redeemed by the big reveal.

I'd agree if a TV show had that sort of ending (and Lost kinda did) because of the time invested. But a movie is different. 2 hours is a small price to pay for the pleasure of the mind-f that Usual Suspects delivered.

I agree, what's wrong with a big reveal if done right. Usual Suspects and 6th sense both had huge reveals and they are widely loved films. If we get 6th sense and not The Village I'll be ok with that.

Here we go. Does it bother you if you don't figure out a film in the first 30 minutes. Are you so sure of your deductive prowess that if a film or show "fools" you then it was a cheap trick and lazy writing.
