I'm digging the screen cap of The Daily Advertiser. I'd like to know more information on this "Angle of Mercy' article in the right column. One of the lines at the end talks about the "haunting, yet beautiful ... statues that guarded the ... entrance." Might be a coincidence, but it reminded me of the statues of Mary in the abandoned school house.
Also, an "Angel of Mercy" serial-killer could describe the murders of prostitutes and the like in this show. From Wikipedia:

The angel of mercy is often in a position of power and may decide the victim would be better off if they no longer suffered from whatever severe illness is plaguing them. This person then uses their knowledge to manufacture the death of the victim. As time goes on, this behavior escalates to encapsulate the healthy and the easily treated.

How did they get Ginger to say where Reggie was?
They didn't. Marty followed the fat guy after the meeting where he said he saw Cohle's soul around the edges of his eyes. The fat guy drove to the compound in the woods and they tracked him.

if i were guilty of first degree murder in texas, and my one loose end was a biker who hated me, i'd care what happened to him

tuttle may just be one big fraud
way too many mentions of tuttle for it to not go anywhere. we should find out next week when Rust goes to interview Tuttle as we see in the previews

That's what I think as well. He doesn't give a shite if his biker gang cover is blown either. He's not going back to that

Not really. The idea that we tell stories to plaster a pleasing narrative over the truth (e.g. Christianity) has been well developed in the series.
As I've been saying all along, the religion of darkness is just the flipside of Christiniaty. No surprises here.

i'd hope he'd care about being linked to 3-4 murders (at least) in Texas, as well as lying about his whereabouts to LSP while engaging in illegal surveillance

I'm going to guess that Rust knows, or has a very good idea who the King in Yellow is during the interviews
He either knows or is damn close. He was seen five times and his car was spotted around the time/area of the 2010 Lake Charles murder. If he doesn't know at that point he is definitely following the right leads/suspects.

The only thing that seemed odd was that he didn't flinch when Marty killed Ledoux. This was before he knew why Marty pulled the trigger. Maybe he's numb to death and violence after being in the action for a while.
he just greased Ginger (in all likelihood)and has spent the previous few days tripping balls and getting in a Mogadishu-like battle in a Beaumont hood. Not to mention his entire career of narco investigations. I'd say hes probably hard to rattle when it comes to someone getting capped.

You think Ginger is running to the cops to tell them Rust was in on the hood robbery and that cops would believe that?

the archetype of the "rich occultist" is typically linked to a secret society like the illuminati or freemasons, and the reason why the archetype has lased so long in our western consciousness is b/c it's anti-christian and seen a threat to the dominant religion of the culture
Reaching - but the picture of the five guys in the Cajun Mardi Gras photo really gives off a cult-ish vibe. The way the girl is just standing there eerily facing the camera throws me off. Rust Cohle - anagram for Horse Cult. Those who ride on horses are typically higher ups in Mardi Gras, and often have money. Could suggest 5 "rich kings" on horses around the little girl?
Again, reaching, but just read for face value.

What is his motivation?
Ultimately it is probably just his inclination to Sandusky little kids. That's most of these cults really are. A cover to justify and recruit.

over the truth
but the question is, what is the "truth" to the occultist(s)?
purifying drug addicts with...drugs (meth/LSD)?
cleansing society while relying on degenerate child rapists?
creating a "behind the scenes" power group using occult as a cover...while using degenerate child rapists?
regardless of the story covering for the behavior (and Christianity is a big stretch cover story), the behavior is somewhat irrational and without a major underlying theme (at least what we know of them to this point)

You guys are looking too deep into this Ginger thing.
His part of the story is done, IMO. They needed him to get to the cook. They got where they needed to go.... Done.

So does anyone besides me think that episodes 4-5 are a kind of set piece? I ask because didn't episode 4 begin with the interrogation framing shot? Episode 5 ends with the same shot of Rust inside the school.

he doesn't have to run to the cops once he finds his group, or any other biker group sympathetic to his patches
and it wouldn't take much to float the story/rumor through bikers to where it could get back
we're talking lethal injection here, when he's already guilty of 1st degree murder. killing ginger is much simpler, safer, and logical
