There's no physical evidence linking him to anything in the projects. He never fired his gun. And I assume everyone involved in that was either killed or in jail.
In the end I don't think it matters what happened to Ginger and the viewer can believe what they want about him.

Been catching up on this thread all morning.
Curse of the detective is broken marriages. Hart point blank asks the detectives how many marriages they've had due to being a detective. Has nothing to do with missing clues. What was under his nose was his family. Happiness. Said his only sin was not spending time with his family.
Also the daughter may have seen crime scene photos that her dad brought home. Dolls could be her staging what she saw in case files. I still don't think she was molested. She is a whore because she is seeking attention since her dad never gave her any.

If Ginger was dumb enough to storm the ghetto he is dumb enough to do anything. No way they let him live. But he poses a hole in the story. This a detective show we should expect every detail to be given attention.

Well, if you listened to Cohle's speeches this probably wouldn't be a big problem for you.
I'll just take his exposition from last night. From the point of view of eternity, nothing dies. So a demon-god creates the world to see things die. If you unpack it this is in essence a mythological version of the pessimistic philosophy Rust adheres to. From the point of view of the eternal gods, again time is not real--everything is fixed; this is the meaning of eternal recurrence. The illusion of control is just that--an illusion.
Rust has one reaction to this "truth". The Cult has another. It tells a different story. They want to be as close to the gods as possible. And how do you get close to the gods? By repeating their creation--by showing them your awareness.

But like I said, it doesn't matter to me. Either take on the story works for the viewer.
