when there is a completely new investigation?
Which is connected to the original investigation. Not like it's a whole new story. And a decent part of the first 5 episodes where dedicated to other things outside the actual investigation, such as Marty's life at home and Rusts crazy history
I honestly don't think 3 more hours out of 8 total is a "short amount of time" to wrap things up. Especially with how much has been revealed in the last 2 hours

It didn't take 5 hours to "solve" the first murder. We've been in the present half the time, laying the ground work with the characters, developing atmosphere, the intellectual points the show is dealing with, and the general pseudo-mythic background...essentially we already know where this is going and, like Ledoux, it's not going to take much time to fill us in on it.

I know all the faces in Carcosa
So who is this Stranger? I must ask
Nothing will prevent me from seeing
This ghost robed in pale white damask
He wears another face
With eyes so hard to trace
The Stranger hides behind the Pallid Mask
Whiter than the rolling mists of Hali
Expressionless and cold as the Black Stars
Is there truth behind the illusion?
The only truth is death will come at last
Weaving webs of sly deceit
So vague and incomplete
The Stranger hides behind the Pallid Mask
The shadows lengthen in Carcosa
The shadows lengthen in Carcosa
The above is a song inspired by the King in Yellow.
Tonight, there were many references to faces being removed, like masks. Also, dewall says that Rust has a "shadow". Ledoux mentions the black star to Rust.
He's in Carcosa (carlyss). Just across Lake Calcasieu (hyads), is lake charles.
Stuff to chew on. It all comes back to Lovecraft.

well we know probably at least one ep will be discussing the falling out
that doesn't leave much for a conclusion. it's not like rust and the new detectives will just team up immediately
i have $5 via pay pal saying no more than 1 full episode goes without flashbacks...i have a feeling the "present" will not be explored and there will be a big reveal, via marty

I'm not posting spoilers here. But I can tell you that the present moves quickly. Also, I really don't get why you are being so pessimistic about the pace of the show and how the conclusion will be formed. They've done a good job imo.

they've done a good job for half of the story. there is still another half of the story to tell, imho
that's why i'm being pessimistic

Regardless of how much time is spent in the present, there is no way they give us a random or short, surprising conclusion. This show has been waaaayyyy to good for something like that. I refuse to believe Nic and Fukunaga will end it like that

This story would run concurrent would the rest of it. Three hours is a shitload of time. Think Casino. You're being a negative Nancy.

i'll take that bet
and then i'll make another bet that says people will claim the ending is none of those, regardless how it plays out
