Yeah, how people get trapped into the cult is the most interesting part.
I mean other than the part where they go down in a blaze of glory a la Waco.

i'm not saying he didn't know he possessed the video
until the pictures were brought to his attention, he didn't have those, either. are you saying he took those pics?
he's obviously involved. we just don't really know HOW involved he is. that's the only point i'm making. it's likely that he participated in some rape, maybe murder, but there's a good chance (i'd say less than 50%) that he may not have

Her death is prior to Lange's. We know that Errol strung up the second displayed victim on his own. We saw in the first episode Errol carry her to the tree on his own. We know that this killing disturbed Tuttle enough to try to cover it up. If Tuttle wanted to cover it up, why would he display her in the first place?
Best inference from this information: Errol went rogue.

why they were in a cult?
listen to the crazy old black lady. she lays out how fricking whacked out the family is and all the illegitimate children and the family's beliefs on carcosa. we know ledeouxs and errol were buddies based on the cousins statement.

This thread is interesting and all, but I'd just like to say that I'd love to take Michelle Monaghan on a road trip, a slow boat to China or, hell, a spin around the block.
Thank you. Thank you very much.

well he had been covering up shite for a while now
hell all the shite with his schools alone was a cover up

that is the question
and he was only covering up his involvement...not the murder

Can someone paraphrase what Errol says while Rust is chasing him through Carcosa?
Have trouble making it out. Thanks!

I'll just interject a thread ender here.
The show is called TRUE Detective.
The real investigation wasn't the search for the Yellow King. It was deeper. It was their search for the meaning of their lives.
In the end, Marty saw that true meaning as his family and broke down. Rust realized his life had true meaning in that his daughter lived on in a place of love.
In that sense the title is a play on words. The show was about them detecting what is really TRUE.

Wow, is this thread a shite show
The series started off fantastic and had some bumps, but overall it was a very entertaining 8 hours. I was a little disappointed in the finale until I watched it again today with subtitles on. Was much better. The dialogue from Errol as Cohle was following him in Carcosa was hard w/o subs.
A couple answers from questions I saw so far:
The green house - was a neighbors house, they show Marty taking pictures in an early episode as they're canvassing.
The phone -
Holy frick. The sister/wife was tied to the staircase at the end. We didn't see Marty do it but it was IMPLIED that he did that. He put a fricking gun in her face and demanded a phone. Me thinks she told him where it was. Implied.
Part of the back and forth with this show is expectations we put on it ourselves. Yes, some of it set us up for it (barbie gang rape) and some of it we took liberties with. Most of the negative stuff people can attribute to their own misgivings however. The author himself said it was about the characters. Many of us thought the murders were a back story, not the main story. The goal posts didn't shift too much for a lot of us. For others they did. Who cares?
It doesn't have to be the GOAT to be enjoyable and I found it to be very.
